Job Description Summary
The Social Media Coordinator at the Medical University of South Carolina will play a key role in enhancing the institution's online presence, engagement, and communication strategies. This position reports to the Digital Marketing Director in the MUSC Office of Communications and Marketing and will collaborate with various departments to showcase MUSC's commitment to health care excellence and innovation through social media channels. This is a remote position with preferred residence in South Carolina. This role will require up to 50% travel throughout the state.

The MUSC Social Media Coordinator will assist with managing and growing the social media presence for all Medical University of South Carolina brands. They will be responsible for helping to develop strategies to achieve key performance goals through data-driven planning, content management, social monitoring, and engagement.

The ideal candidate will combine a deep understanding of various platforms with proficiency in crafting engaging campaigns aligned with organizational goals. They will possess strong content creation, analytical, and communication skills, ensuring effective audience engagement. Tech-savvy and adaptable, they will stay updated on trends and utilize management tools efficiently. Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

30%- Management of social media channels and community for all MUSC brands

Success Criteria:
  • Ensure timely and satisfactory resolution of customer inquiries and issues raised on social media.
  • Consistently meet deadlines for content creation, posting schedules and campaign timelines.
  • Monitor and maintain a positive sentiment around the brand on social media platforms.
  • Manage and maintain the organization's social media profiles and presence, including account information for various users.
  • Execute an annual content calendar for organic social media efforts.
  • Stay informed about competitor activities and industry news.
  • Maintain social media guidelines and policies. Reviewing on a bi-annual basis and updating as needed
  • Achieve steady growth in the number of followers across all relevant social media channels.
  • Measure and demonstrate a consistent increase in social media engagement metrics (likes, shares, comments, etc.)
  • Manage other duties as assigned.


30% -Execute social media campaigns and content creation to support brand positioning and elevate the visibility and awareness of MUSC

Success Criteria:
  • Develop engaging daily content (e.g., original text, photos, designs, videos) for various social media platforms.
  • Evaluate the success of social media campaigns based on predetermined KPIs, such as click-through rates, conversion rates, and reach.
  • Analyze the performance of individual content pieces and adjust the content strategy accordingly for optimal results.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on social media analytics to improve overall strategy and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align social media efforts with overall marketing strategies.
  • Foster and engage with the online community through comments, messages, and interaction.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Manage other duties as assigned.


30% -Analyze, track, and report on the performance of social media efforts

Success Criteria:
  • Monitor social media and schedule posts through the preferred platform, Meltwater.
  • Use a project management system for paid and organic intake work to create a seamless process for stakeholders.
  • Adhere to timelines and deadlines and ensure that social media efforts are aligned with business objectives and best practices.
  • Utilize analytics tools to track and report on key social media metrics and report on campaign performance.
  • Manage other duties as assigned.


10% -Stay up to date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools, and applications and assist with organizational efforts

Success Criteria:
  • Engage in 20 hours of annual professional development to stay current on tools needed in the creative design and development space.

  • Execute a results-driven social media strategy, both paid and organic.
  • Develop and curate engaging content customized to various social media platforms.
  • Assist in creating and editing written, video, and photo content.
  • Attend events and produce live social media content, capturing photos and videos as appropriate.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team and stakeholders across the enterprise on the social media calendar.
  • Monitor social media channels and keep up to date on industry trends.
  • Interact with the community and respond to social media messages, inquiries, and comments.

  • Assist in developing and managing social media marketing campaigns, paid advertising, organic content, and influencer marketing strategy across all social platforms.
  • Assist with managing the master list of login information for access to department/affiliated social media accounts across the enterprise.
  • Update social media content across all channels.
  • Use social media marketing tools such as Meltwater and self-service social advertising platforms.
  • Assist with monitoring SEO and web traffic metrics.
  • Assist with the annual review of the social media policy and updates.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders, including senior management, creative teams, brand, campaign managers and partners.
  • Understand and adhere to regulations, brand, and institutional protocols related to promoting health care and research.
  • Ensure all social media content aligns with brand guidelines and values.
  • Maintain consistency in messaging, tone, and visual elements across platforms.


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
  • 1 to 3 years of proven experience managing social media platforms for an academic institution, health care organization or similar role
  • Experience in social media execution and planning
  • Knowledge of best practices for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, or equivalent tool
  • Experience using social media management tools such as Meltwater
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and campaign tracking tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with diverse teams
  • Organized and able to multitask
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel up to 50%


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of best practices for advertising platforms such as Facebook Business Manager, Google Ads and Microsoft Ads
  • Understanding of SEO, keyword research and analytics


Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • May be required to kneel, squat, or stand for extended periods to capture images
