As Director Sr. Counsel, Complex Litigation Management you will collaborate with a dynamic, tenured in-house Legal team and will be responsible for managing class action and high-value individual litigation matters on behalf of our company. You will oversee all aspects of these cases, directing and coordinating with external legal counsel as needed, and effectively communicating with internal stakeholders to access necessary records from the business, manage discovery, conduct research, develop strategy, perform legal and quantitative case analysis, negotiate matters, and identify and pursue possible insurance coverage—all aimed at achieving a satisfactory resolution of large individual and class action lawsuits. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in high-stakes litigation management, class action issues, and insurance matters.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement strategies for managing class action lawsuits and large litigation matters.
  • Oversee all aspects of class action and large litigation cases, including legal research, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel and provide guidance on case strategy and management.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including claims, risk management, and business teams, to gather necessary information and documents for litigation.
  • Review and analyze legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence related to class action and large litigation cases.
  • Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders, including senior management, regarding the status of class action and large litigation matters.
  • Monitor developments in class action law and insurance regulations to ensure compliance and adapt strategies as necessary.
  • Participate in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of class action and large litigation cases.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for major cases and work with accounting and finance on accruals and reserves. Provide advice and guidance to Claims Department on cases and smaller claims.
  • Assist as assigned on insurance regulatory matters as needed
  • Assist with reviewing product-related materials, including certificates of insurance and brochures, to ensure clarity and overall legality


What You Will Bring

  • License to practice law in Virginia (or ability to promptly obtain Virginia in-house practice license).
  • Graduate from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in insurance law and litigation management, with specific experience in class action defense preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of class action procedures, complex litigation management, insurance regulations, and relevant legal principles in the insurance industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex litigation matters simultaneously and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing
Travel Expectations: This position is routinely expected to travel 10% of the time
