Position Summary:

The Department Director manages the operations of the Nursing Unit, ensuring the department provides quality care and meets all internal and external staffing requirements. This position oversees all staffing functions to ensure adherence to procedures and regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

1. Ensures unit nurses provide quality patient care and complete required documentation according to hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

2. Leads the Team in Performance Improvement activities and facilitates active participation of staff. Responsible for assisting with the unit's schedule related to the nursing team.

3. Accepts responsibility for updating and increasing skills and knowledge through training and continuing education.

4. Promotes a harmonious working environment by communicating and working cheerfully and cooperatively with co-workers, other hospital employees, patients, family members, physicians and the general public.

5. Ensures orientation of new employees.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

Associate's degree is Required

Required Skills

1. Current NC or Multi-state RN license

2. Bachelor's Degree required within 3 years of hire

3. Three years' RN experience in a Med Surge Unit

4. Minimum 2 year's supervisory experience

5. Ability to handle a high-stress environment

6. Ability to communicate and react effectively to the needs of the patients and staff.

7. BLS
