POSITION SUMMARY

Primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of Baptist St. Anthony's Health System's Ambulance Service, including hiring, promoting, suspending, discipline and termination of employees; payroll; preparing budgets and reports; attend meetings as required or requested; ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. Responsible for the financial operation of the department and is responsible for the protection of Baptist St. Anthony's assets including buildings, equipment, supplies and vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring excellent quality care will be given to every patient served by promoting effective management of total patient care while a patient is transported.
  • Occasionally responsible for providing emergency care and transportation of the sick and injured in accordance with established protocols, BSA Health System Policies and Department Guidelines. Safely operates emergency vehicles in compliance with all laws, BSA Policies and Department Guidelines. Accepts other tasks as assigned by the Vice President of Operations.
  • Demonstrates competency handling emergencies utilizing all BLS and ALS equipment and skills in accordance with all local protocols and behavioral objectives in the US Department of Transportation EMT-Paramedic curriculum.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language and demonstrate effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively, and asking pertinent questions where clarification is required.
  • Possess vision and hearing necessary to accomplish all the psychomotor skills for the EMT-Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic.
  • Interview and obtain an accurate medical history from the patient, family members and bystanders.
  • Interpret written, oral, and diagnostic form instructions.
  • Provides leadership, uses good judgment, and remains calm in high stress situations including situations not covered by written or verbal instructions.
  • Calculate weight and volume ratios and read small print, both under life-threatening time constraints.
  • Accurately discern street signs and address numbers and able to read maps.
  • Safety operates emergency vehicles in compliance with all laws, BSA Policies and Department Guidelines.
  • Perform duties under intermittent or continuous physiological duress including but not limited to: bodies with known or unknown communicable diseases; environments with known or unknown hazardous materials, chemical materials or biological materials; persons with known or unknown mental or psychological disorders; unruly or verbally abusive persons; violent or combative persons; dead or dying persons; family or friends of dead or dying persons and life and death assessment-triage-treatment decisions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • High School (or GED equivalent) diploma; A bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Five years field experience preferred.
  • Three years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certification or licensure as an EMT-Paramedic by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider completion.
  • Valid minimum Class C Texas Driver License with restriction "A" permissible.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) completion within 80 days of employment.
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) completion within 80 days of employment.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) completion within 80 days of employment.
  • Completion of the following Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800.A is required within 80 days of employment.
  • National Registry preferred
  • Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) completion preferred
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) completion preferred
  • Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program (CCEMTP) completion preferred
