Job Description

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Epic Data Strategy and Clinical Analytics is responsible for leading a team in designing, implementing, and optimizing data solutions that enhance the functionality and efficiency of the Epic EMR system. Your deep understanding of Epic's data structures, workflows, and integration capabilities will be crucial in driving innovation and delivering high-quality data solutions to support healthcare operations and decision-making.

The Director is responsible for managing the overall work of Epic Business Intelligence developers who are focused on delivering Epic data products, such as data extracts, reports, dashboards and analytical models. This director will manage the day to day work of their direct reports, as well as help them develop high level data solutions. The director should have advanced knowledge of clinical workflows, and use that knowledge to evaluate and provide suggestions for the most applicable data solutions. The Director of Epic Data Strategy and Clinical Analytics is expected to Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.

The Director of Epic Data Strategy and Clinical Analytics will provide strategic direction and vision for the development of data solutions within the Epic EMR system. Collaborate with senior leadership to align data solution initiatives with organizational goals and objectives. This Director will implement a roadmap for continuous improvement and innovation using Epic data within Hyperspace and outside of Epic.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:
Leadership and Strategy:
• Foster continuous education of Epic reporting tools and clinical workflows.
• Develop and execute a roadmap for continuous improvement and innovation in Epic data solutions.
• Participate and contribute to various workgroups and councils where DnA presence is needed.

Team Management:
• Lead and manage a team of clinical developers responsible for Epic data solutions.
• Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
• Set clear objectives, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback to ensure the team's success.

Epic Data Solution Development:
• Drive the design, development, and implementation of data solutions within the Epic EMR system.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, including clinical teams, IT professionals, and business users, to gather requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient data solutions.
• Leverage your expertise in Epic data structures, data models, and APIs to develop innovative solutions that enhance usability, data integrity, and reporting capabilities.

Integration and Interoperability:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and interoperability of data solutions within the Epic ecosystem.
• Work closely with integration specialists and interface teams to design and implement data interfaces between Epic and other systems.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for data exchange, security, and privacy.

Performance Optimization and Troubleshooting:
• Monitor the performance of Epic data solutions and proactively identify opportunities for optimization and enhancement.
• Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot data-related issues, working closely with technical teams to implement effective solutions.
• Stay up to date with Epic's latest releases, upgrades, and features to leverage new functionalities and improve system performance.

Data Governance and Quality:
• Establish and enforce data governance practices and standards to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency within the Epic EMR system.
• Implement data quality controls and validation processes to ensure the reliability and usability of data solutions.
• Collaborate with compliance and security teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and data privacy policies.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
• Collaborate with key stakeholders, including clinicians, administrators, and executives, to understand their data needs and provide guidance on data solution development.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Epic representatives and user groups to stay informed about system updates and best practices.
• Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, translating technical concepts into clear and actionable insights.

Documentation and Training:
• Document data solution designs, configurations, and workflows to ensure knowledge transfer and support future system enhancements.
• Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for end-users to promote effective and efficient utilization of Epic data solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, Statistics or a related discipline, and five (5) years of experience in systems analysis and design of information systems, two (2) years of which must have been in a managerial or supervisory capacity; or
2. A satisfactorily equivalent combination of certificates, education and/or experience, in which thirty (30) graduate-level semester credits from an accredited college or university can be substituted for one (1) year of experience, and each month spent completing relevant certificates can be credited for one (1) month of experience. However, all applicants must have at least a Bachelor's Degree.

Department Preferences

  • CERTIFICATION(S)/NYS LICENSE(S):Epic certified
  • EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:Bachelor's degree or higher with 6+ years of experience in data and analytics related work.
  • COMPUTER PROGRAMS/SOFTWARE OPERATED:PC and/or OS operating systems; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; SQL and other data analysis tools
  • SPAN OF CONTROL:Between 3-5 direct reports
  • Advanced knowledge with Epic EMR workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of Epic EMR reporting tools.
  • Experience working in one or more of the following settings; hospitals, clinics, health insurance providers other health related industry.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools
  • Effective communication skills with executive level stakeholders
