The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The Harris Center") is on the hunt for a dedicated Director- Financial Accounting, & Reporting. The Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Accounting and Accounts Payable functions. Primarily responsible for managing all general ledger accounting including the monthly and year-end close. Oversees the accounts payable process, including the processing of invoices and payments, accuracy of data entry, and timely payment of vendors.

Your Role in Action:
  • Prepare, and reviews monthly and annual internal financial statements, and footnotes.
  • Perform technical accounting research as required, including on accounting and financial reporting issues.
  • Supporting the controller in preparing for and implementing new accounting standards
  • Supervising, training and mentoring staff with duties related to accounting and reporting.
  • Communicating regularly with management and business units
  • Assisting in the maintenance of internal financial controls, including developing and/or updating procedures to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
  • Communicating with external and internal auditors regarding financial reporting matters
  • Prepare complex monthly journal entries for assigned accounts and ensure that all account activity is recorded accurately and timely.
  • Review and approve staff journal entries, month end close notes & schedules, bank account reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and automation to streamline accounts payable workflows.
  • Managing the accounts payable team, including assigning work tasks and monitoring performance


What qualifications you will need:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration ( major in Accounting preferred) .
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.

Experience:
  • Prefer at least 7 years of experience in accounting and budgeting functions, techniques, and functions.
  • Experience in governmental or non-profit accounting or budget work.
  • Experience in various computer applications, especially budgeting and fixed assets.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and verbal, writing and interpersonal skills are crucial to the position, as is the ability to interact with all levels of divisional management.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of GAAP, reporting requirements and financial statement analysis.
  • Organizational skills to track accounts payable procedures from invoices to payments..
