Job Summary:

The Office of Medical Education, Colorado Springs Branch has an opening for a two-year term limited part-time 20% salary support position as Director for Community Engagement and Medical Education at Peak Vista.

Under the direction of the Colorado Springs Assistant Dean, the Director for Community Engagement and Medical Education at Peak Vista is responsible for co-developing and managing service-learning curricula in collaboration with the CSB leadership team and medical student clerkship placements for five school of medicine students at Peak Vista during their core clerkship year. This includes developing service-learning curricula, fostering community partnerships, supporting student community engagement activities and related student academic scholarship. This also includes working with students and local SOM leadership to direct and coordinate the CU SOM-Springs Rescue Mission Foot Clinic and the IDD CAMP scholarship with clinical placement in the Developmental Disabilities Health Center clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

Service Learning/Community Engagement Project Work:

  • Collaborate and engage with social services and other community organizations in Colorado Springs and surrounding areas to develop longitudinal service-learning community engagement experiences for students.
  • Support community organizations and students in community engagement activities as needed, including mentorship around needs assessment, project evaluation, and scholarship
  • Collaborate with the Colorado Springs Branch LIC team to integrate community engagement and Health and Society curricular content into the LIC in support of relevant learning objectives and curricular goals.
  • Connect with existing community partners, foster relationships with new community organizations, and promote student-community connections in support of student community engagement experiences.


Peak Vista Clerkship/Education Lead:

  • Preceptor recruitment for 5 students in the following clerkships: OB/GYN, psychiatry, pediatrics, family medicine and internal medicine.
  • Oversight of the educational experience for all PV students in the various clerkships
  • Collaborate with SOM leadership to bring faculty development to PV preceptors
  • Communication and coloration with PV preceptors and SOM leadership to development about faculty development sessions including obtaining evaluations

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Instructor:

  • Master's degree or higher in a field related to curriculum development/education, community engagement, or the health professions
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Instructor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with community organizations to advance education, research, and/or clinical care of community members.
  • Exemplary teaching and mentorship record
  • Sustained record of success and demonstrated leadership


Sr. Instructor:

  • Master's degree or higher in a field related to curriculum development/education, community engagement, or the health professions
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Sr. Instructor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with community organizations to advance education, research, and/or clinical care of community members.
  • Exemplary teaching and mentorship record
  • Sustained record of success and demonstrated leadership


Assistant Professor:

  • M.D., D.O., Ph.D. degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and experience with development/education, and community engagement.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Assistant Professor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with community organizations to advance education, research, and/or clinical care of community members.
  • Exemplary teaching and mentorship record
  • Sustained record of success and demonstrated leadership


Associate Professor:

  • M.D., D.O., Ph.D. degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and experience with development/education, and community engagement.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Associate Professor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with community organizations to advance education, research, and/or clinical care of community members.
  • Exemplary teaching and mentorship record
  • Sustained record of success and demonstrated leadership


Professor:

  • M.D., D.O., Ph.D. degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and experience with development/education, and community engagement.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Professor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with community organizations to advance education, research, and/or clinical care of community members.
  • Exemplary teaching and mentorship record
  • Sustained record of success and demonstrated leadership


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced or terminal degree in a health professions field
  • Experience working with and leading a diverse team
  • Experience working with community
  • Demonstrated ability to develop individuals committed to inclusion
  • Role models respect for differences in ideas, perspectives, unique characteristics, and strengths
  • At least 2-3 years of curriculum development experience at a major university, professional school, or healthcare organization
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Colorado Springs community or surrounding areas


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be knowledgeable about medical education and have experience in medical education, curriculum development, and scholarship.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the School of Medicine including undergraduate medical education curriculum and student requirements.
  • Must have superior interpersonal and communication skills that support consensus building, a safe environment, and shared decision-making. Facility in building collaborative and productive working relationships within the medical education milieu.
  • The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills, innovative thinking, cultural humility, and a commitment to health equity.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

  • Instructor: $20,000-$40,000 as .20 FTE salary support (up to the educational cap of 200,000).
  • Sr. Instructor: $20,000-$40,000 as .20 FTE salary support (up to the educational cap of 200,000).
  • Assistant Professor: $20,000-$40,000 as .20 FTE salary support (up to the educational cap of 200,000).
  • Associate Professor: 20,000-$40,000 as .20 FTE salary support (up to the educational cap of 200,000).
  • Professor: $20,000-$40,000 as .20 FTE salary support (up to the educational cap of 200,000).
