JOB SUMMARY
The Honors College Director will teach one course per semester, either as a part of the Honors College Curriculum or in the Director's major teaching field.

During the semester prior to start-up, the Director will have a three course (9 hour) release time to engage in the major activities of recruiting students, identifying faculty for the initial courses, and shadowing the current Director to learn the operational details of the program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Recruit students through a variety of activities, including visiting area high schools with recruitment materials and making connection with twelfth-grade counselors.

Publicize the Honors College in other appropriate venues in the community and at College events.

Interview all applicants and assists students with their financial aid and registration process.

Advise all selected students in their course options and works with the Registrar's Office to enroll students.

Continue advisement throughout the four semesters until the student's graduation.

Plan and schedule extra-curricular activities such as museum visits, symphony, theatre, and musical events.

Hold an annual etiquette luncheon for first-year students.

Participate in university-related activities as Model Arab League or Model UN.

Encourage students to take leadership positions in campus clubs, honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa, and student government.

Assist students in their transfer process, including writing letters for admissions and/or scholarship support.

Prepare and administer the program budget in collaboration with the Executive Director.

Work with local Campus Management to secure appropriate space for a Director's Office and a Student Lounge specifically for Honors College students.

Work with appropriate Department Chairs to identify faculty to teach Honors sections and linked classes.

Take an active role in designing an international travel experience for second semester sophomores.

Works with all relevant System Offices and protocols to submit appropriate paperwork for students and chaperones.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
  • Master's degree in an academic field taught within the Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) curriculum
  • 5 year's full-time teaching at HCC in a program leading to an AA or AS degree required
Licensing & Certification

Working Conditions
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
