THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:

The Director of the Lean Agile Center of Excellence has overall responsibility for the implementation and management of the Lean Agile practice at Ulta Beauty. This includes leading the design, definition, and successful implementation of the Agile playbook, including practices, ceremonies, processes, measurement, and governance. This role serves as the inspirational champion, the organizational expert, and the structural leader for the Agile Transformation across several technology portfolios at Ulta Beauty.

YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH ALL THESE GOALS BY:
  • Relationship Management: Champions the strategy to understand stakeholder objectives and requirements. Leads relationship management with the most senior stakeholders, and is the ultimate escalation point for issue resolution.
  • Quality Management: Sets the quality strategy for the organization. Ensures the extent to which the quality policy meets the organization's needs and objectives and reviews it as necessary. Ensures that adequate procedures and resources are in place to support the quality system.
  • Performance Management: Manages a team of Scrum Masters, coaches, and external partners by allocating responsibilities and/or packages of work. Provides coaching, support, and delegates responsibilities where possible, in order to achieve corporate objectives. Ensures performance objectives, and monitors progress against agreed quality and performance criteria.
  • Business Process Improvement: Advises on significant enterprise level improvements and measurable business benefits by identifying, proposing, initiating and leading significant programs of improvement centered around Agile Methodology. Champions a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Change Implementation Planning and Management: Influences and provides the process, tools and techniques to manage the technical and people aspects of change to achieve the required business results. Coordinates the business implementation plan, including scope and timing.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Agile Coaching: Define, evolve, and mature Ulta's Agile practices with a keen focus on scaling agility at the organization-level, guiding and coaching leaders on how to build governance processes, shift mindsets and behaviors, and scale agile practices. Guide the coaches to shift and transform the mindsets of the pods themselves, along with the stakeholders. Educate and mentor all levels of the organization, maintain continuous business engagement and leverage agile techniques to foster mindset shifts and drive towards value delivery.
  • Scrum Masters: Responsible for ensuring that Scrum Masters and their respective teams deliver products based on effective Lean-Agile principles and practices. Create best practices across the Scrum Master community, while ensuring that scrum teams are operating with high velocity and delivering toward committed outcomes.
  • Release Train Engineering: Oversee Release Train Engineering for all portfolios, ensuring the planning is successful for each program increment. This will include the planning, facilitation, and documentation of the quarterly Big Room Planning events, in addition to documenting and facilitating dependencies and risks from the agile teams.
  • Collaboration: Ensure value streams, scrum-of-scrums and pods are operating at maximum productivity. Collaborate with the Product Group Leaders, Engineering Leaders, and Delivery leaders to help the team break down goals and facilitate high-quality work at the program level. Key partner in various cross-team events and processes and assisting the teams in delivering value while managing risk, stakeholder communication, escalations and driving continuous improvement.
    Support Ulta's pods on Agile ways of working, continuously reviewing industry best practices to refine as needed.
THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience with Agile and Scrum
  • 7+ years' experience leading agile teams
  • Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Coach, Product Owner and/or Agile Coach experience preferred
  • Prior experience leading an Agile Transformation at a large organization. (Retail and/or Direct-to-Consumer preferred.)
  • Deep understanding of various Agile methodologies and experienced in coaching Scrum and Kanban teams on Agile methodologies and practices.
  • Knowledgeable about various product management best practices, including OKRs, roadmap building, MVP scope, end to end product release, metrics tracking etc.
  • Strong communication skills - able to propagate information promptly, clearly and unambiguously
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to coach and mentor the team
  • Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust
  • Self-aware of cognitive biases and their impact on decision making. Decision making focused on the primary aim to build high performing teams, develop team members and outcomes that matter to customers
