Position Summary

The Director, Magnet and Nursing Professional Practice is responsible for cultivating and sustaining a professional practice environment for ECU Health Medical Center and Beaufort Hospital nursing that includes leading all aspects of the ANCC Journey to Magnet Excellence, Magnet Designation and Magnet Redesignation Processes. The role also serves as a subject matter expert, supporting ECU Health Nursing across the system in collaboration with the Nurse Executive Council in the planning, design, implementation, and sustainment of nursing excellence including, but not limited to shared decision-making structures, the professional practice model, prioritization of ANCC Magnet and Pathway to Excellence journeys, and nursing-specific data and benchmarking.

Responsibilities

1.Accountable for leading efforts in support of the cultivation and sustainment of an exemplary professional practice environment and culture reflective of a high-performing Magnet-designated organization.

2.Assess, implement, and lead structures and processes for an effective shared decision-making model to support exemplary professional practice, quality care and patient outcomes in alignment with nursing and organizational goals.

3.Responsible for the Magnet application submission, leading processes for writing the Magnet document, electronic submission of the Magnet Document to the American Nurses Credentialing Center, site visit preparation, interim reports, and any other required elements of designation.

4.Evaluate nurse sensitive indicator data, organizational quality outcomes and national benchmarks to assure ECU Health Medical Center data is being appropriately gathered, assessed and outperforming benchmarks. Ensure that nurse sensitive indicators, organizational quality outcomes and nurse satisfaction and engagement data are disseminated and enculturated across the organization.

5.Provide education and mentorship to leaders and the nursing team regarding Magnet principles and processes.

6.Administer Specialty Certification programs and contracts. Track, trend & disseminate specialty certification and advanced degree data.

7.Oversee DAISY and other recognition programs.

8.Assess, implement, and develop structures and processes for successful Journey to Magnet Excellence and re-designation activities.

9.Responsible for budgeting dollars for external consultants and internal Magnet Re-designation partnerships.

10.Develop, disseminate, educate, and mentor nurses at all levels of the organization regarding the sources of evidence and Magnet Model Components.

11.Responsible for building strong professional relationships with other nursing communities and professional organizations as well as external consultants such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center and Magnet Recognition Program to enhance a culture of excellence.

12.Actively participate in publication and presentation at the local, state, and national level on behalf of ECU Health.

Minimum Requirements
  • MSN required; Doctorate in Nursing (PhD or DNP) preferred.
  • Active unencumbered NC RN License required. Specialty certification preferred.
  • 5 + years of experience working in a Magnet program or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years relevant progressive leadership experience with experience leading in a Magnet organization, preferably in a large academic medical center.
