Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented licensed Director of Clinical Services, to join our team of compassionate and dedicated clinical professionals.

The Director of Clinical Services provides social services to patients in his/her assigned program under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer. The Director of Clinical Services is responsible for the maintenance of social work standards of practice, credentialing and in-servicing of social work staff, maintenance of the social work internship program, and acts as a liaison to the Chief Executive Officer in maintaining the quality of social work services.

Position Summary:

The Director of Clinical Services is responsible for the maintenance of social work standards of practice, coordination and implementation of case management services, maintenance of the clinical services internship programs, and acts as a liaison to the Chief Executive Officer in maintaining the quality of clinical services. The Director of Clinical Services maintains positive internal and external relationships, working with the hospital-based treatment team as well as with other providers, local and state agencies, and managed care organizations. The Director continuously assures that clinical services are in full compliance with applicable regulations and payor contract specifications.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Directs the implementation of the case management services, consulting with all disciplines to ensure the provision of an effective treatment plan for all patients.
  • Oversees the response to requests for services and interfaces with managed care organizations, external reviewers and other payers. Responsible for the case management model of care.
  • Prepares reports for Board of Governor meetings, Medical Executive Staff meetings, and Medical Staff meetings.
  • Assists Medical Staff in evaluating the quality of patient care and in developing criteria and methods for such evaluation.
  • Responsible for the review, development, and implementation of the clinical services department policies and procedures.
  • Participates in daily operations meeting, Environment of Care Committee, Patient Safety Committee, Performance Improvement Committee, Grievance Committee; attends additional meetings as requested by CEO.
  • Reviews the quality of documentation provided at all levels of care to assure adequacy and clinical appropriateness.
  • Establishes standards for customer relations and monitors the interactions between clinical services staff and customers to evaluate the effectiveness of customer service
  • Directs the program services offered, consulting with facility management in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the case management program.
  • Maintains an awareness of community and market-related activities which includes knowledge of the activities of other providers, needs of local payors and the political climate related to mental health.
  • Ensures strategic program goals and objectives are consistent with the overall organization and facility goals and objectives.
  • Develops goals, objectives, policies, and procedures related to the operational needs of the program scenarios.
  • Conducts department meetings on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Oversees the collection of data as needed.
  • Oversees the necessary clinical supervision to student interns and other clinical staff.
  • Supervises and evaluates the clinical services team including but not limited to social services, case management, and recreational therapy.
  • Works a schedule tailored to the needs and objectives of the facility.
  • Administrates and enforces all hospital policies on a fair and consistent basis.
  • Works closely with the Chief Nursing Officer and Nurse Managers to ensure all programming is implemented on the unit.
  • Coordinates daily clinical duties and schedules of social work, court services and recreational therapy department staff, flexes staffing as needed.
  • Coordinates Performance Improvement activities for patient treatment programs. Responsible for the timely completion and compilation of all clinical services Performance Improvement Monitors and Performance Improvement quarterly reports.
  • Responsible for calls after hours related to discharge planning and coverage issues.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or PhD. in Psychology from an accredited college or university required.
  • Current license in the State of Michigan as a fully licensed Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Psychologist required.
  • Minimum of four years post graduate experience in a clinical setting providing direct patient services required.
  • Experience with patient assessments, family motivation, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations (i.e. managed care, Medicare, Medicaid) or comparable entities required.
  • Knowledge of or experience with patients' rights, advanced directives, adult and child abuse laws and emergency detention required.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a leader in a clinical setting and as member of a multidisciplinary treatment team required.
  • Three years of supervisory/management experience required, five years preferred.
  • Understanding of case management model of care required.
  • At least two years of experience in an inpatient psychiatric or similar setting preferred.
