Job Description

NYC Health and Hospitals (H+H) has been tasked to operationalize and manage Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center (HERRC) facilities and the Arrival Center to offer direct service provision, resource navigation, and temporary respite for single adults, adult families, and families with children seeking asylum in the United States. The NYC Health + Hospitals HERRC Director of Community Affairs will work in close coordination with H+H internal stakeholders and external stakeholders including community organizations and local stakeholders.

The HERRC program is seeking a Director to Community Affairs to serve as the link between the Program's core mission to support newly arrived asylum seekers and its community-based partners on the ground.
The Director will support relationships and advance strategies to convey key information and updates to community partners that foster broad understanding and collaboration across the board.

Reporting to NYC H+H Senior Director of External Affairs, the Coordinator will be responsible for:
  • Supporting relationships with community-based groups as well as local, state, and federal offices
  • Providing direction on informing local partners about public-facing developments, strategies, and initiatives
  • Supporting information pipelines that further public understanding of the Program's work
  • Assisting to craft responses to inquiries from community members and elected offices, and liaising with HERRC staff to ensure a consistent flow of information to elected partners
  • Reviewing, editing and writing materials for public distribution to ensure consistency and clarity
  • Supporting HERRC with the planning and execution of external events, including tours
  • Tracking and assessing legislative activity related to HERRCs at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Working with the H+H leads regularly interacting with the public, such as the Communications Team, to foster parallel engagement with elected officials that promotes understanding about the Program
  • Performs other duties as required


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Baccalaureate Degree issued upon completion of a four-year course in an accredited college or university; and,
2. Four years of full time, professional experience in a health or social agency in a responsible administrative or supervisory capacity, of which two years experience is to be in community service and/or public relations; or,
3. A Masters Degree from an accredited college or university, and three years of professional experience; or,
4. A satisfactory combination of education, training and experience.
