The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Director of Development for Nursing, Health Professions, & Sciences for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Colleges of Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Health Sciences located in Memphis, TN. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor, the Director of Development is responsible for securing philanthropic support for the current and future needs of the UTHSC Colleges of Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Health Sciences.

The purpose of this position is to develop and maintain internal and external relationships that foster the achievement of fundraising goals. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Fundraising Strategy: Collaborate with Deans and College Leadership to create and execute strategies for fundraising priorities, including determining roles and approaches for prospect solicitation and planning engagement opportunities during travel.

Donor Cultivation: Actively engage and cultivate relationships with existing donors and new prospects through 1:1 and group meetings, ensuring continuous communication, gift agreement development, and strategizing for subsequent gifts to meet strategic goals.

Alumni and Constituent Engagement: Work with alumni board leadership and development committees to develop and implement strategies for alumni engagement and fundraising, including preparing for board meetings, special events, and coordinating with the director of annual giving for campaign priorities.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

The candidate who fills the Director of Development for Nursing, Health Professions & Sciences position is required to have:

  • Bachelor Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in higher education (or a comparably complex organization), in fundraising, sales, or related field
  • Ability to show independence in motivation, initiative, and creativity with ability to focus and prioritize
  • Goal oriented with an understanding of budget needs


A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances. In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.

Preferred Education and Experience

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience working with organization leadership
  • Strong relationship building skills, including strong deductive reasoning skills
