Position Summary:

This position reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities Services Operations and is responsible for Landscape Services, Sanitation Safety (including Pest Control, Hazardous Materials, Mold, Asbestos), and Rapid Response Team (including Moving, support of Campus Functions and Special Events). In-depth knowledge of government general industry/construction regulations (health/safety/environmental) including associated licensure/certification is necessary. The Director has a critical role in supporting the vision and mission of the University. The position is responsible for planning, scheduling, managing, full budgetary duties, and for all administrative duties associated with, but not limited to, grounds care, arboriculture, landscape and turf maintenance, irrigation management, heavy equipment operations such as excavation, demolition, transfer and hauling, and ice/snow removal and contract administration for landscape renovation improvements, paving, street sweeping, and fencing. The Director collaborates with the Landscape Design team and UT Facilities Planning on capital improvement projects steered by campus master plans.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Responsible for evaluating campus facilities, landscape services, and facilities operations including deciding the necessary actions and modifications needed in order to maintain or improve conditions and support the campus mission and campus functions.

• Develops and prioritizes maintenance and improvement needs including making recommendations for state funded and other capital projects.

• Establish and administer programs, policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the safe and timely execution of all work performed by Landscape Services and Facilities Operations personnel.

• Secures resources to include materials, consultants, and contractors to assist Landscape Services and Facilities Operations in performing as a top tier organization.

• Coordinates work personnel including activities between Landscape Services, Facilities Operations, and other Facilities Services units, as well as the campus community.

• Works alongside Design Services and project design teams on new buildings and renovations detailing requirements to be designed into new and renovated facilities to assure that the buildings and systems are able to be properly maintained following the completion of construction/renovation.

• Responsible for setting performance goals and objectives supporting the vision and mission of the University to include employee performance objectives, evaluations, training, and employee skills development.

• Responsible for staff performance management and HR actions to include hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• In depth knowledge of government regulations (health/safety/environmental) as applicable to general industry/construction and associated licensure/certification is necessary.

• Must be able to lead a diverse workforce as a more predictive and proactive versus reactive team.

• Must have excellent communications skills to be able to communicate effectively with all members of the campus community including staff, faculty, upper level administration, visitors, contractors, and vendors.

Qualifications:

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and 10 years of related experience to include at least 5 years of supervisory experience preferably in higher education Facilities management. In lieu of degree candidates who have 18 years of related experience to include at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
