SUMMARY:

The Director of HIM is responsible for the operational performance of the Middle Revenue Cycle services including coding, clinical documentation improvement, release of information, transcription, chart completion, vital records, enterprise master patient index, and document management/storage.

This position will lead the HIM and Coding teams in achieving and maintaining service levels by implementing best practice strategies, and integrating, monitoring and facilitating improvement in the overall quality, timeliness, completeness and accuracy of the medical record processes for TRHS and Affiliate organizations.

Direct, set vision, and define roles and responsibilities for Middle Revenue Cycle including training, delegating tasks, overseeing daily activities, mentoring leaders and staff, implementing best practices and offering opportunities for professional development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Acts as the legal custodian for the medical record and serves as the HIM and Coding compliance resource for the system. Provides leadership and knowledge to direct reports with regards to the evaluation, promotion, resolution of employee relations/disciplinary concerns and the termination of employees.

* Responsible for developing standards and ensuring the quality and integrity of physician and facility documentation, coding and revenue capture. Accountability to maintain coding queues in the assigned standard delay.

* Optimize revenue and help decrease AR Days by performing appropriate reviews, working and monitoring the DNFB report daily, investigating denial trends and patterns, and providing education regarding medical record documentation, specific clinic charge capture issues, charge reconciliation and coding guidelines.

* Represents the HIM department at meetings and on assigned committees. Participates in the decision and policy-making processes on system issues, and drafts policy and procedure particularly those which relate to the middle revenue cycle.

* Attends all mandatory education programs. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and TRHS' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.

* Prepares and updates strategic and operational HIM plans with the VP of Revenue Cycle. Completes special projects in a timely manner and reports to VP of Revenue Cycle on status of assignments.

* Ensures that problems, complaints, and regulation violations are investigated, and appropriate action is taken to resolve issues within the requested time frames.

* Oversees staff training and monitors for consistency in operational processes, compliance and staff dissemination of policies and regulations along with outcomes across HIM, Hospital and Physician Coding, and Clinical Documentation Improvement.

* Develops and monitors annual department goals and operating/capital budgets. Anticipates technology growth development in the department

* Maintains confidentiality and security of department information according to established procedures.

* Works collaboratively and proactively with other department leaders, using key performance indicators to identify deficiencies, trends and opportunities, facilitating work groups, and implementing improvements in performance and outcomes.

* Develops management and staff performance expectations, goals and metrics. Measures and communicates organizational financial and departmental achievement throughout the year and makes operational adjustments to aid in meeting productivity goals as needed.

EDUCATION:

* Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Related Field, preferred.

* RHIA or RHIT certification, required.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Five to Seven years of progressive leadership in Health Information Management experience, required.

Position is in person and required to be onsite.
