Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources (HR) at the Terry College of Business is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing all HR functions within the organization. This role involves developing and implementing HR strategies that align with UGA and Terry business objectives, fostering a positive workplace culture, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations. Key responsibilities include strategic HR leadership, policy development, employee relations, talent management, compensation and benefits, HR metrics and reporting, compliance and risk management, leadership and team management, and organizational development. The Director of HR will manage employee relations issues, oversee recruitment and onboarding processes, analyze HR data, ensure legal compliance, lead the HR team, and drive initiatives that promote organizational effectiveness and cultural transformation. This position involves a proactive approach to developing integrated HR solutions and enhancing the overall HR support provided to the organization. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Finance and Administration, the Director of HR works closely with various departments and units within the organization to ensure cohesive HR support. This position will demonstrate the utmost professional standards, confidentiality, and ethical conduct, ensuring adherence to federal, state, BOR/USG, and UGA statutes, policies, and procedures. The Terry College of Business is diverse and complex, employing approximately 232 faculty, 207 staff, and 303 students. This position is based in Athens and works with staff on the Buckhead Campus, primarily in-person with the potential for one day a week of remote work.

  • Proficiency with HR data systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet, recruiting, training development, and presentations.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to organize, remember, and derive appropriate conclusions from large amounts of information.

Recruitment, Employment and Compensation
  • Daily management and oversight of HR functions in multiple systems UGAJobs and OneUSG Connect including approval and signature authority.
  • Advise hiring units on the hiring process for faculty and staff.
  • Manage all job actions and guide supervisors on matters related to reorganizations, reclassifications, updated job descriptions, and new job postings, while having the discretion to make autonomous decisions independently.
  • Review and approve staff actions at Executive Authority level and faculty actions at OFA Liaison level.
  • Serve as the primary contact for hiring international faculty and staff.
  • Develop and maintain strategic recruiting, onboarding, and retention plans.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional statutes, policies, and procedures
  • Facilitate classification changes for compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Maintain proficiency in policies and procedures and federal and state laws.
  • Develop and maintain policies to ensure consistency in employee processes and performance management.
  • Manage all salary actions and offer letters.
  • Provide guidance on staff salary action requests for budgetary and organizational compliance.
  • Oversee compensation, benefits, and wellness programs.
  • Ensure compensation programs comply with internal policies and government regulations.

  • Provide counsel and direction for a variety of employee relations needs.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for escalated employee relations questions.
  • Provide benefits counseling and facilitate open enrollment meetings.
  • Consult with employees regarding FMLA, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, and Shared Leave.

  • Coach managers to maximize their staff resources.
