Wytheville Community College is open from 8 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday. This position will be required to work these hours along with any evening or weekend hours needed for events and meetings.

The Director of Institutional Advancement for Wytheville Community College ( WCC ) is responsible for the management of the Wytheville Community College Educational Foundation, Inc., the Wytheville Community College Scholarship Foundation, Inc., and the Wytheville Community College Real Estate Foundation, Inc., all non-profit 501©(3) organizations that operate under the direction of separate Boards of Directors. The Director of Institutional Advancement is also responsible for grant proposal writing and the management of the WCC Public Information Office. The Director supervises Institutional Advancement and Public Information Office staff.

The Director’s responsibilities include:
  • Providing leadership for the planning and implementation of annual and special gift campaigns and fund-raising activities;
  • Providing leadership for the recruitment and cultivation of Foundation donors and volunteers;
  • Overseeing management of meetings of the Boards of Directors of the WCC Educational Foundation, Inc., the WCC Scholarship Foundation, Inc., and the WCC Real Estate Foundation, Inc.;
  • Overseeing management of the day-to-day operations of the Foundations, including acknowledgement of private donations, record keeping, correspondence, and marketing;
  • Managing the Foundations’ scholarship programs, as well as the Wythe-Bland Community Foundation Scholarship Program, the Twin County Community Foundation Community College Tuition Assistance Program, the Smyth County Promise Scholarship Program, and the WCC Forging Futures Scholarship Program funded by the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission;
  • Managing the WCC Scholarship Foundation’s participation in the Department of Education’s Neighborhood Assistance Program;
  • Managing annual awards and recognitions funded by the WCC Educational Foundation.
  • Providing leadership for special college events, such as public receptions, luncheons, dinners, presidential inaugurations, groundbreaking ceremonies, and special cultural activities and programs;
  • Ensuring compliance with legal/ VCCS policies/guidelines applicable to foundations/fund-raising.
  • Overseeing the development and management of the WCC Alumni Association and related alumni activities;
  • Overseeing the development and management of a planned giving program;
  • Overseeing the administration of the WCC Public Information Office, including the production of college publications, advertising, and photography services;
  • Providing leadership for college marketing plans and activities;
  • Identifying grant opportunities, preparing grant applications, and managing grants that are received, including oversight of grant implementation and required reporting;
  • Supervising and managing Institutional Advancement and Public Information Office staff;
  • Assisting with the coordination of WCC’s legislative advocacy initiatives;
  • Advising the President on matters relating to private support of the college and the public image of the college;
  • Attending meetings and maintaining other appropriate communications on behalf of the college;
  • Serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet;
  • Performing other duties as may be assigned by the President.


This position reports directly to the President of the college and will be required to file a yearly Statement of Economic Interest.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in business, education, or related field from an accredited college or university;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;;
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with various constituencies;
Past fundraising experience;
Past event planning experience;
Past grant-writing experience;
Past experience in administration including supervision and managing personnel;
Past financial management experience; and
Knowledge and appreciation of the community college mission.

Additional Considerations
Experience with large scholarship programs;
Past public relations and marketing experience;
Doctorate in education, business, or related field from an accredited college or university; and
Past community college or higher education experience in fundraising
