The College of Law at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Director of Marketing and Communications.

About the Opportunity

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the College of Law's integrated marketing and communication strategy and promoting the brand of the College through various mediums including print, digital, social media, and internal and external communications. This position will oversee efforts to enhance the prestige and goodwill of the College and to ensure the needs of the College are met and its reputation optimized. The Director supervises the marketing and communications team and its tasks and activities.

What You'll Do

  • In consultation with the Dean of the College, develop, manage and implement a comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plan for the College. The plan must align with the mission and strategic goals of the University and the College.
  • In consultation with the Dean and other internal stakeholders, develop strategic marketing, communications and external relations proposals.
  • Lead the marketing and communications team in executing approved proposals.
  • On behalf of the Dean of the College, compose high-level communications such as announcements, speeches, presentations, etc.
  • Manage rapid response and crisis communications for the College in coordination with University Relations.
  • Collaborate with University Relations to assist in implementation of marketing and communications strategies and proposals.
  • Participate in monthly WVU University Relations Key Communicators meetings and activities and report on same.
  • Supervise the College marketing and communications staff.
  • Oversee and produce, by deadline and on budget, a variety of digital and printed communication materials related to the College's day-to-day operations, its strategic marketing and communications plan, and its external relations needs. Subject matters may include recruitment, fundraising and development, alumni communications and promotional materials, lecture and symposium ads, programs, and invitations, student-related activities, and the like.
  • Ensure proprietary items used comply with WVU brand and trademark licensing standards.
  • Understand website maintenance sufficiently to effectively manage the College websites. Oversee the content of all websites is accurate, current, and relevant.
  • Expand and grow the College's presence in online communication and marketing channels and help develop strategic goals for web, social media, and other key digital platforms. Manage primary social media accounts to effectively meet College goals.
  • Establish strategic benchmarks and metrics to determine effectiveness of tactics. Regularly assess tactics and make adjustments for improvement.
  • Facilitate the College's engagement, marketing and communications with multiple audiences, including alumni, donors, potential students, and other stakeholders through appropriate messaging.
  • In collaboration with the College's enrollment management staff, implement communications and marketing to reach the College's recruitment goals.
  • Execute communications and marketing on a routine basis for current students involved in the College (e.g. event promotion, newsletters).
  • In collaboration with the Director for Development and/or the WVU Foundation, implement communications for fundraising efforts and events.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, integrated marketing communications, public relations or similar fields.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations and/or developing a complex strategic communication plan.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

  • Superior skills in communications principles and practices for audiences both internal and external to the College.
  • Superior skills in marketing principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated superior writing and editing skills required, including skills in English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and accepted journalism style.

  • Demonstrated knowledge required of design programs and the print process, sufficient to produce print publications with internal support and external vendors.

  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate all social media outlets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate concurrent projects.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and deal tactfully with a variety of people, including a diverse population of internal and external constituents, administrators, faculty, staff, other WVU units, employees, vendors, and the general public.
  • Ability to work evenings and / or weekends as necessary.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Supervisory experience.
