The Director of Nursing Professional Practice is responsible for coordinating, consulting, and assisting with the implementation of programs and initiatives to m. Leads Nursing Research and Magnet concepts collaborating with leadership to promote, develop and sustain an environment that supports excellence consistent with a Magnet culture. Focuses on sustaining institutional Magnet designation by activities and structures that promote an optimal work environment for professional nurses and care team members, resulting in outstanding patient outcomes. An understanding of nursing research and required standards, performance improvement strategies will be required. Strategies include assessment of workflow-related processes, research, criteria development, measurement, and evaluation.

Job Duties:

1. Leads and manages Peer Review and NOMAD program.

2. Assists and participates in Rewards and Recognition initiatives.

3. Leads all work required to meet the BON rules in regard to nursing practice, with current nurses, and terminated nurses.

4. Conducts pre and post consults with nursing staff, leaders, and reports directly to the ACNO, CNO, CNE, on minor incidents, NPR reviews or report to the BON post termination of a UTSW nurse.

5. Maintain and oversite of all required documentation of events involved with NPR, BON direct reports, and follow up of work of the NPR Committee.

6. On boarding of new NPR committee members and oversite to NPR meetings with nursing staff.

7. Critical thinking ability required, with clear understanding of professional nursing practice, including, scope of practice for nurses including LVN, RN, APRN.

8. A strong customer service orientation and teamwork ethic are essential, interactions with all nursing staff, staff and leadership team members.

9. Outstanding interpersonal skills, verbal communications, ability to negotiate with peers as well as supervisors.

10. Ability to provide feedback in a positive yet assertive way.

11. Ability to make decisions within scope of position and work with minimal supervision.

12. Computer literacy with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, database and contact management software, and browser-based workflow applications

13. Willingness to ask questions, take initiative to streamline processes, procedures, and practices

14. Acts as a subject matter expert in Peer Review.

15. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master's degree in Nursing (MSN), Preferred PhD in Nursing or DNP Experience: Minimum of six (6) years' leadership and administration experience

Certification(s): Certification from the American Nurse Credentialing Center, Specialty Certified, preferred. Licensure(s): Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Texas is required.

Previous Nursing Leadership and Peer Review experience are highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of statistical analysis and methods. Knowledge and ability to design, conduct and disseminate research. Knowledge of computer use and software to include MS office and other software used for hospital operations. Skilled in developing and maintain effective working relationships with personnel. Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills with hospital/ clinic staff,

Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in a fast-paced setting. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to utilize motivational techniques to develop leadership and decision-making within the department. Ability to teach colleagues, staff and others. Ability to act as a liaison and resource. Ability to delegate tasks in a management style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a hospital or hospital clinic environment. Walking, standing, bending, turning and stooping.
