Daikin Applied is seeking a Director of Operations Labs who will manage, direct and coordinate large or multiple test lab operations. This role will ensure the achievement of company objectives by overseeing the management of the Daikin Applied Americas Technical Center which includes Engineering, Safety and other related operations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.

Location: Hybrid, Plymouth, MN

What you will do:
  • Develop and maintain Technical Center operations business plans to include all program requirements, labor hours, production costs, backlogs, quality and other related laboratory statistics
  • Provide input to the development of product strategy and research and development of new and emerging products
  • Establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered
  • Provide guidance to the development of a Technical Center process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs
  • Ensure all established costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met
  • Coordinate manufacturing activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment
  • Review production, operating and financial reports and communicate information to executive management
  • Determine responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives
  • Develop plant policies and supervise the application of such policies. Ensure that all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Participate in organizational development to ensure appropriate and adequate utilization of labor, machinery and equipment. Take action to implement changes/improvements when necessary
  • Oversee the implementation of manufacturing schedules based on sales requirements and plant capacity
  • Monitor production activities to eliminate delays and ensure adherence to production and shopping schedules
  • Maintain effective communication with Engineering, Purchasing, Materials, Customer Service, Marketing and other departments to constantly seek production improvements, minimize costs and ensure maximum customer satisfaction
  • Oversee a strong, proactive safety program to promote a safe, healthy working environment for all plant employees
  • Seek to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with the union and provide information in periodic Labor-Management meetings
  • Maintain conformance to budgetary limitations in all departments
  • Manage supervisors and other employees by establishing goals, allocating resources, assessing annual performance and determining individual merit and promotional increases

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Engineering (Technical or Scientific) is required
  • 5 years of experience leading Verification and Validation and/or Labs Organization
  • Design for Six Sigma Expert: minimum of Black Belt certification
  • Cross Functional Experience is required: quality, product development

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in engineering is highly preferred
  • Design for Six Sigma Expert: Master Black Belt is preferred.
  • Refrigeration expertise (cooling/heating) is highly recommended
  • Systems Engineering experience is highly preferred (formal training is required, certification is preferred: ASEP, CSEP).
  • Experience in a multicultural or global environment, preferably including an international assignment, is highly desirable
