The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the Director of Scouting and Player Development, Women's Basketball.

The Director of Scouting and Player Development will be crucial in identifying and developing talent for our Women's Basketball Program, overseeing scouting, player evaluation, and development programs. They assist in all aspects of film break down and player development, organize and oversee managers and scout team, and assist/contribute to all areas of our UVA Women's Basketball Program. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Film Breakdown
  • Self-Scout/Player Development: Assist assistant coaches with position film breakdown after each game. Break down position practice film upon request.
  • Game Goals: Track game goals during/after games.
  • Opponent Scouting: Break down personnel and provide notes for each scout. Assist video coordinator in coding/live coding upon request.
Manager Gym Set up/In-practice Oversight
  • Oversee/assist managers with gym set up and clean up.
  • Ensure managers are ready for drills that require their involvement.
  • Ensure managers are enthusiastic and bring ENERGY and understand their assigned duties.
Scout Team
  • Help recruit talented personnel to be a part of our Scout Team.
  • Know them personally and build a relationship that will help them be consistent in their attendance.
  • Assist the assistant coach in ensuring a consistent count of personnel to be at practice on a daily basis.
Recruiting
  • Assist with recruiting position film of our basketball system.
  • Help with on campus recruiting visits. Know the campus tour thoroughly (walking/golf cart/driving).
  • Assist with compliance aspects of recruiting. Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all NCAA rules and regulations, especially relating to Bylaw 13-Recruiting.
Student-Athlete Leadership/Relationships
  • Connect and build genuine professional relationships with the players.
  • Keep up to date with players regarding all aspects of their lives.
Vision and Mission
  • Work consistently in fulfilling and upholding the mission of UVA Athletics and the Women's Basketball Program.
  • Serve as a Teacher, Mentor, and Equipper of young women for life at, and after, UVA!
The Director will perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with all levels of personnel, both within and beyond the University.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to take direction, work independently and as a member of the team.
  • Attention to detail, ability to organize and execute projects by stated deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the Women's Basketball Program in a professional manner and work with tact on complex, sensitive, and confidential issues.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with HUDL Sportscode, Synergy, and/or FastScout.
Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent (4+ years') related experience.

Experience: Some working knowledge of the sport program to be supported.

Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
