POSITION TITLE: Director of Secondary Education (6-12)

JOB GOAL: The Director of Secondary Education is responsible for the administration, coordination and supervision of Secondary Education. This position responsibilities include oversight of all elementary schools.

REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree or higher, must be an ALSDE certified teacher, must have an education administration or instructional leadership endorsement; experience school administrator on the secondary level is preferred; and such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable.

SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary schedule, credentials, and experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Serves as leader and general resource person in matters relating to grades 6-12 curriculum development, services, supports, and evaluation.
  2. Facilitates, implements, and assists with the development of a standards-driven, evidence based curriculum across all content areas for grades 6-12.
  3. Acknowledge all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures, regarding career, technical, and dual enrollment education.
  4. Leads and coordinates the district's Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
  5. Should be knowledgeable of CTE and/or college and career preparation program and curriculum standards, preferably across grades K-12.
  1. Knowledgeable of workforce development information, industry standards, and employer needs in and outside of the Dallas County.
  2. Develops, submits, and manages the CTE budget for the operation of assigned programs and services.
  3. Coordinates the secondary instructional program in a manner consistent with the district's strategic plan goals and objectives.
  4. Organizes and analyzes summative and formative academic data, observational data, attendance reports, demographic data sources, etc. for the continuous improvement of schools and students.
  5. Analyzes, reports and interprets student performance data and makes recommendations for instructional improvement.
  6. Coordinates and implements grades 6-12 staff development program.
  7. Reviews, researches, prepares and disseminates information pertaining to trends in curriculum development, extended learning programs, and intervention programs.
  8. Serves as the lead for the district's school counselors.
  9. Serves as the lead for the district's library media specialists.
  10. Facilitates the work of the district's teaching and learning team.
  11. Seeks and write grants to support secondary instructional development and services.
  12. Support the mission and vision of the Selma City Schools' district.
  13. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 . Leads and coordinates the District's Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs
  1. Coordinates the sharing of best practices and curriculum across district schools
  2. Provides leadership and expertise in guiding and advising District task forces and advisory committees and groups
  3. Assists in assessment and evaluation of teachers and programs- Business Industry Certification requirements, and recruitment and screening of CTE personnel.
  4. Plan and manage Perkins Fund and other related budgets.
  5. Conduct observations of all CTE teachers.
  6. Coordinate through the appropriate personnel all CTE work experience programs in the school system.
  7. Serves as the leader for the CTE advisory committee.
  8. Assist in purchasing process and installation and maintenance procedures for all CTE Recommend equipment purchase, repair, and disposal for all CTE programs.
  9. Supports a CTE culture and works to ensure that graduates are fully ready for post-secondary success.
  10. Collaborates with principals on the school counseling efforts to positively impact student achievement and postsecondary planning.
  11. Develops partnerships with non-district personnel and institutions of higher learning to augment the resources available to students through the school counseling program including, but not limited to, dual credit opportunities, institutions of higher education, college/career fairs, and financial aid events.
  12. Leverage relationships within the local and state communities to ensure that students have the means, opportunity and preparation to succeed in post-secondary education, ranging from two- or four-year colleges, apprenticeships, or certification programs, and to be successful in the workplace.
  13. Develops college and career pathways unique to the needs of students in collaboration with the campus staff, community input and labor market demands to develop coherent sequences of courses in multiple areas.
  14. Collaborates with postsecondary institutions for articulation of dual credit courses and serves as a liaison to higher education partners.
  15. Establishes and maintains relationships with college admissions offices, recruiters from two and four year colleges, trade schools, military, and alternative programs.
  16. Recommends improvements and/or additions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the district's college and career readiness efforts.
  17. Maintains a College & Career Readiness website.
  18. Responds to parent inquiries about CTE.
  19. Plans and coordinates parent and community informational meetings regarding dual credit opportunities, advanced academics, etc.
  20. Actively seeks and manages multiple funding resources and grants to support CTE.
  21. Develops professional development activities for CTE staff and teachers that align with district goals.
  22. Tracks, assesses and reports data used to assess student achievement and retention; implements continuous improvement programs and processes, as appropriate.
  23. Prepares reports and maintains records required by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE).
  24. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position,

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month position in accordance with Board approved salary schedule.
