Responsibilities

The Director of Student Teaching & Internship Experiences is responsible for instructional support and oversight for pre-internship and internship experiences in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. The Director will oversee the placement, supervision, coordination, and partnership management for all pre-internship and internship experiences. The Director will be directly responsible for placement, supervision, coordination, and partnership management for programs in the School of Teacher Education. The Director will supervise the Assistant Director who oversees other internship experiences outside the School of Teacher Education (school counseling, school psychology, dietetics, music education, art education, marriage and family therapy, etc.) and the Field Experience Coordinator.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Provides collegewide instructional support in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences with pre-internship and internship experiences including advising academic program faculty on curriculum, supervision, and evaluation of the student interns. Ensures students meets required qualifications and placements support the educational mission of the program.
  • Responsible for overseeing the operations associated with pre-internship and internship experiences for all programs.
  • Responsible for securing placements with school districts, agencies, and other sites and negotiating new placement sites as needed for all academic programs in the School of Teacher Education.
  • Develops procedures to ensure placement sites meet accreditation and academic requirements for quality of instruction, instructional design and lesson planning, learning environment, and instructional delivery and facilitation. Collaborates with faculty and staff in the School of Teacher Education placements or support placement of students.
  • Responsible for the curriculum development and implementation of Clinical Educator Training, Cooperating Teacher/Site Supervisor training, and University Supervisor training for all teacher education units. Oversees teacher education student teaching University Supervisors including providing mentorship and feedback related to their supervision of student teachers.
  • Establishes and maintains close liaison with partner districts, agencies, and sites. Responsibilities include developing affiliation agreements with all partner site administration through coordination with FSU General Counsel.
  • Establishes and maintains close liaison with College academic departments and supervising faculty to ensure coordination of effort and exchange of information related to internship experiences.
  • Interprets and advises the Associate Dean, Academic Services Directors, Department Chairs, faculty, and students on policies relating to the placement of students in pre-internship and internship experiences.
  • Provides recommendations on critical issues pertaining to the pre-internship and internship experience and partnership effectiveness.
  • Responsible for the development of student handbooks and educational materials used in the unit to ensure internship experiences meet accreditation, program, and FSU guidelines.
  • Makes recommendations on travel budget for supervision and support of University Supervisors. Maintains database of all students participating in pre-internship or internship within the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences and advises the Associate Dean on the depth and breadth of statewide and national partner sites.
  • Collaborates with Assistant Director of Graduate Programs, Assistant Director of Undergraduate programs, and Director of Accreditation regarding policies and procedures regarding matriculation, field experiences, and completion of accredited and approved programs.

Qualifications

  • Academic master's degree from an accredited institution in education or a closely related field.
  • Three years of management experience in an educational setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or other terminal degree.
  • Three years of teaching in a Florida public school.
  • Experience supervising student teaching interns.

The Office of Academic Services and Intern Support (OASIS) is the representative office for the academic dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. OASIS strives to provide students, staff, and faculty, with the tools and support needed for student success. OASIS serves as the central repository for all student records, monitors required academic milestones, provides academic advising and support for undergraduate students, collaborates with academic departments to provide academic support for graduate students, and serves as the primary liaison between current students and the Office of the Registrar, the Division of Undergraduate Studies, and The Graduate School. OASIS directly manages the undergraduate admission process and provides support to academic departments in the admission of graduate students.
