Job Description:

Position summary: To administer, manage and operate the Laurel Ridge Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a federally and locally funded business assistance grant program.

Job description: The Director administers, manages and operates the Laurel Ridge Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a federally funded business assistance grant program.

Functional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Direct and lead the SBDC program to geographical dispersed customer base.
  • Measure and evaluate impact of one-on-one and training program delivery to ensure high quality delivery of services from SBDC staff.
  • Monitor business environment to determine and design small business education programs.
  • Develop diversified out-reach assistance programs.
  • Leverage and manage public and private financial funding ensuring that matching funds are secured each year.
  • Manage the formation and adherence to an annual operating center budget within host organization structure.
  • Develop and manage the marketing of the SBDC program including online marketing, print materials, and team branding.

  • Manage invoicing processes to both GMU and to local jurisdictions.
  • Provide one-on-one counseling on small business topics to the small business community including but not limited to accounting, finance, social media, leadership, website development, cybersecurity, buying and selling businesses, and assistance in loan application development.
  • Manage all federal and state reporting requirements including but not limited to annual reports, maintaining Center IC database, and reporting to local funders.
  • Participate as small business expert in public speaking events.
  • Coordinate annual conferences for small businesses.
  • Network with small business experts, local EDA directors, and commercial lending professionals on a consistent basis.
  • Participate on Virginia SBDC network committees as directed by the VASBDC State Director and attend quarterly leadership meetings.
Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range for this position is $67,186.00-$97,420.00. Salary will be commensurate with competencies and experience. This position is restricted with funding through December 31, 2025.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience working with small business financials, or owning a small business, or commercial loan application development.
  • Experience in public speaking and conducting training seminars.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and managing budgets.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to core values, including integrity, professionalism, respect, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, which includes managing teams, guiding strategic initiatives, and making decisions that drive organizational success.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with economic development's role in building/maintaining a community.
  • Proficiency in basic computing programs, such as Microsoft Office 365 or Google Suite applications.
  • Proven subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or credentials.
