Job Description

Director of Statistics in Statistical Innovation is responsible for providing scientific and statistical leadership to lead or collaborate with other functions on important clinical development and DSS initiatives and projects, especially those using advanced statistical methodology, advanced predictive modeling and/or ML/DL.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead or collaborate with other functions on important clinical development or DSS innovation initiatives using advanced statistical methodology, advanced predictive modeling and ML.
  2. Lead high priority statistical excellence working group(s) that investigate novel methodologies and provide technical reports and guidance/best practice documents and applications to DSS statisticians
  3. Provide strategic and technical input to clinical development programs on innovative statistical methodologies and approaches to enable development options to increase efficiency
  4. Provide strategic consulting and simulation support to DSS internal or external partners on innovation related projects
  5. Propose and drive opportunities to participate in the complex innovative design (CID) initiative from FDA
  6. Lead research and publications on novel statistical and/or ML/DL methodologies to help clinical development
  7. Stay on top of advanced and emerging statistical methodologies including adaptive designs, Bayesian methods, AI/ML, synthetic control and advanced statistical modeling, and provide education seminars to DSS internal and external partners
  8. Builds and maintains external reputation and influences in the industry with presentations, by attending industry meetings, and authoring peer-reviewed publications


Qualifications

  • PhD in statistics/biostatistics or related field with at least 8 years of related work experience.
  • Strong publication record
  • Strong presence in scientific community with invited talks, presentations and other community services
  • Strong modeling, coding, algorithm development and simulation capability using R and/or Python
  • Strong Bayesian adaptive design and Synthetic Control/Dynamic Borrowing research experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in machine learning and deep learning methodologies and applications is preferred
  • Good understanding of clinical trials operations and challenges
  • Experience in leading or co-leading cross-functional initiatives is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate and consult with discipline experts and leaders within and across functions.
  • Passionate about statistical innovation, always thinks out of the box, and is never satisfied with the status quo

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
