Position Summary

This position fills a critical role in the organization by providing leadership for Avionics engagement strategies in the global regulatory and standards development organizations as well as direct participation in the global policy environment. Strong leadership engagement in global regulatory, standards and policy development activities provide opportunities to influence outcomes and to gain valuable insights. Such insights are critical for shaping our future investments in technology, differentiated product and service solutions. Among other organizations, this leader closely collaborates with business development, VSL and engineering teams within Communications, Navigation, Surveillance portfolios that are forecasted to deliver more $4B in revenues over the next five years as global airspace modernization evolves.

Responsibilities include:

Meeting regularly with senior aerospace industry leaders, and global government organizations, to provide Collins perspective influencing future policies, regulations and standards

Establishing Avionics industry engagement strategies that support the businesses strategic objectives. Extensive collaboration with engineering, business development and Collins Government Relations to execute the strategies

Representing Collins in industry committees that are focused in areas such as, unmanned Aerial Systems (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems), civil/military airspace operations, airworthiness evolution, certification evolution, alternate methods of certification, etc.

Providing RTX businesses with informed perspectives on global airspace policy and regulations, business implications. Provides guidance to VSL and engineering organizations on technology, product and service solution roadmaps

Leading the pursuit of global contract vehicles for certain funded research and mission analysis activities, and certain other business related airspace modernization within global organizations such as FAA, Euro Control, EASA etc.

Lead teams working on strategic initiatives, business partnership, joint venture and acquisition-related activities.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree and 14 years of prior relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 12 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 18 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Position requires technical, operational, and political knowledge of the evolving global airspace modernization process. (e.g. NextGen, SESAR, CARATS, SIRIUS, etc.) It should be recognized that a key success criterion is the desire and ability to prepare (e.g. write) documents as drafts for consideration. This demonstrates commitment and strengthens relationships with key industry stakeholders.
  • This position also requires a broad understanding of global airspace operations, aircraft systems and ground-based CNS/ATM infrastructure.
  • Extensive reading and editing of highly technical and operational documents is required.
  • Under typical conditions travel is extensive. Up to 50% travel is commonly required to support relationships in Washington DC, Montreal, Brussels, and other international air navigation authorities.
