ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises and manages staff including Audiologists, Interpreters, D/HH Itinerant Teachers, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Brailists, VI Itinerant Teachers and other assigned staff
- Co-supervises Assistive Technology and Fabrication Lab
- Maintain organization of required equipment orders for technology and materials necessary for compliance of IEP goals, evaluation, distribution, and training of students and staff.
- Manage and monitor caseloads and delivery of services across the district.
- Oversees equipment and material inventory and distribution.
- Assumes the responsibility for the integration and effectiveness of all programs managed through the Special Education department.
- Ensures effective systemic goal development, budgeting and outcome evaluation of departments in Special Education.
- Assures the development and maintenance of a continuous improvement model through the close integration of activities conducted by Special Education departments.
- Coordinates and facilitates implementation of legal requirements for units managed.
- Provides overall leadership, budget management, and program and fiscal accountability Provides assistance to leadership for budgets and funding in the district.
- Develops and implements strategic plans to assure compliance with district, state and federal regulations.
- Creates, promotes and oversees the implementation of goals in administrative and instructional areas.
- Supervises and manages diagnostic staff and diagnostic hubs.
- Implements OCR plans and other agency plans that involve Special Education.
- Implements and maintains goal setting for Special Education programs.
- Coordinates and aligns Special Education activities with other Directors.
- Participates in mediations/resolutions of Special Education issues.
- Actively supports and leads staff to support district goals.
- Disseminates district information in a timely and positive manner.
- Leads specific district projects that are designed to meet district goals as directed and assigned by supervisor.
- Serves as a member of the Executive Director's Management Team.
- Develops and maintains effective communication with parents, community and APS staff.
- Interacts with individuals and groups inside and outside the district to ensure district goals regarding Special Education are met.

- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
- Knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet software.
- Knowledge of Special Education, including legal/regulatory issues, service delivery models, evaluation processes, development of grant applications, budget/finance management and issues related to the implementation of a Continuous Improvement Model.
- Knowledge of strategic planning processes.
- Knowledge of current and effective practices, programs and services to special needs populations.
- Ability to provide leadership in working with students, staff, parents and others.
- Ability to develop and maintain team environments within the department and within school clusters.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Education or related field.
- Five years of experience in an educational setting providing services for special needs students, including teaching experience in a leadership capacity.
- Current NMPED School Administrator's License
- NM PED Special Education License or other closely related field
