The Risk Oversight organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and handling risk across all processes and geographies at American Express.

The incumbent will lead a team of quantitative risk professionals to identify, assess, measure, and lead credit risk. The incumbent will also be responsible for conducting independent risk assessments, providing effective challenge to first line teams, and ensuring that significant risks are promptly identified.

The incumbent will report to the VP, Commercial Credit Risk Oversight.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Provide effective challenge through independent reviews of critical commercial credit risk strategies/ processes
  • Conduct quantitative analysis to drive credit risk insights and recommendations for first line teams
  • Conduct an annual concentration analysis of the commercial portfolios and recommend actions to mitigate risk
  • Lead the annual review of largest AXP clients and set escalation thresholds for exposure and Economic Capital
  • Monitoring and continued enhancement of the commercial credit risk appetite framework
  • Identify commercial credit risk metrics (e.g. KRIs and KPIs) to continuously monitor and oversee risk
  • Develop requirements to support next generation risk capabilities (e.g. Smart Monitoring)
  • Escalate emerging risks by tracking macroeconomic and markets trends


Minimum Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in risk management or a similar role;
  • Credit risk management experience is required;
  • Strong business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective;
  • Experience in data-driven analytics, including analyzing structured and unstructured data;
  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory requirements;
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure;
  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in quantitative or a related field
  • Proven leader who can build, inspire, and coach a team with a passion for the business;
  • Excellent collaboration and influence management skills with the ability to build productive relationships across teams and levels of seniority;
  • Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged;
  • Proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks;
  • Ability to communicate oversight findings to credit risk peers, business partners, and senior executives;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.


Qualifications

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
