Answers telephone inquiries from claimants and at a public counter in a call center environment; Analyzes electronic claim and medical information including employment data to determine claim eligibility; Using appropriate customer service tools and techniques, responds quickly and efficiently to questions from claimants, medical providers, employers, attorneys, insurance companies and the general public, to resolve issue(s) in a single call, documents all actions and decisions; Analyzes claim and medical information to provide claimants with timely and accurate eligibility information; Assists in duration control and enters clear and complete claim notes; Qualifies payments and issues disqualifications; Elevates calls to management when necessary and refers calls to other offices when appropriate; Takes other actions in accordance with Disability Insurance (DI) policies and procedures such as referring customers to other Employment Development Department programs and available community resources when appropriate; Identifies and reports any suspected fraudulent claims or activities

Background Investigation Requirement

The position(s) may require an applicant to pass a background investigation. However, applicants will not be asked to provide information about a conviction history unless they receive a conditional offer of employment.

The department will make an individualized assessment of whether the conviction history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job and the work performed by the department. The department will consider potential mitigating factors, including, but not limited to, evidence and extent of rehabilitation, recency, nature and seriousness, and age at the time of the offense(s).

The investigation will consist of completion of a personal history statement and fingerprinting checks with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, and/or local law enforcement agencies. Anyone failing to pass the background investigation will be provided information on how to appeal the process. A criminal conviction may not result in an automatic determination of "Not Qualified."
