•Manages Operation of Communications Center.
•Supervises and provides guidance to emergency coordinators.
•Responds to inquiries, complies with policies, and reviews reports.
•Properly operates computerized network terminals.
•Performs duties of a Dispatcher Senior.
•Maximizes performance and morale through effective leadership.
•Supervises assigned staff by establishing priorities, evaluating performance, assessing developmental needs, and correcting substandard performance and discipline issues as they occur.
•Communicates clearly and concisely with staff and encourages staff to maintain open communications.
•Effectively identifies and resolves personnel conflicts.
•Communicates safety issues with employees to ensure a safe workplace.
•Continuity of operations is maintained through cross-training and development of current desk procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

•Considerable knowledge of Department policies and procedures and rules and regulations pertaining to emergency communications equipment and operations; of the Division geographical area and radio codes; and of supervisory practices and principles.
•Skill in operating computers and using Microsoft Office applications. •Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and operation manuals; to be organized detailed oriented, handle multiple responsibilities and act
appropriately in emergency situations; to interpret policies and develop procedures; to supervise subordinates while providing leadership and maintain a good working relationship; to provide training and formal instruction, exercising good judgement under stress; and to analyze information and communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
•Ability to work holidays and weekends.
•Graduation from high school or equivalent.
•Must have extensive working knowledge of the Communications Center.
•Requires First Aid/CPR Training.
•Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States (U.S.) citizenship or having been a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. and eligible for naturalization.

Additional Considerations

•Prior experience as a police/emergency service dispatcher is preferred.
