Job Description
\n
Basic Purpose
\n
Positions in this job family are responsible for operating power equipment and performing related tasks in the maintenance and repair of highways.
\n
Typical Functions
\n

- \n
Operates equipment or heavy machinery such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, front- end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment and other equipment as needed.
\n \n - \n
Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
\n \n - \n
Repairs failures in the roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
\n \n - \n
Repairs and/or replaces signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
\n \n - \n
Provides traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.
\n \n - \n
Applies herbicide to highway right-of-ways to control weeds and other unwanted vegetation.
\n \n - \n
Remove debris including tires, animal carcass, spilled items and other obstacles.
\n \n
Education and Experience
\n
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in operating heavy equipment.
\n
Special Requirements
\n

- Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver's license at the time of employment. \n
- Some agencies may require possession of a valid Oklahoma commercial driver's license, class A or B with appropriate endorsements referenced in United States Department of Transportation Title 47, Chapter 6, Section 101 et seq. at the time of appointment. \n
- Persons appointed to positions at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation or the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority must possess or obtain a commercial driver's license, class A, no later than five months from the date of appointment. \n
- ODOT employees are required to have a CDL tank vehicle endorsement. \n
- Applicants must take and pass a drug test prior to appointment. Such tests will be administered through the appointing agency. This requirement is referenced in 49 Code of Federal Regulation, parts 40 and 382. \n
- Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position; be willing to work hours other than on regular shifts during emergency situations; and possess a telephone in residence to receive emergency on-call duty messages. \n
- While performing the duties of this job, the employees are frequently required to stand, walk, reach; and talk and hear. Routinely, employees are required to sit; manipulate or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. \n
- Employees must regularly lift 80 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. \n
- Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8. \n
