JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: District Math/Science Educational Specialist*

REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

JOB GOAL: To provide support for mathematics in the district by identifying and assisting in the implementation and dissemination of effective instructional practices in local schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current Alabama Teacher's Certification, with a minimum of a Master's Degree
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a successful teacher, deep understanding of mathematics/science, and knowledge of scientifically based math/science instructional programs, best practice strategies, and appropriate interventions.
  • Minimum of three years of previous experience in a school, district or educational organization leadership role.
  • Excellent communication skills with outstanding presentation, interpersonal, and time management skills, and abilities to work with adult learners to improve their practices through the facilitation of targeted, intensive professional development and modeling effective math instruction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Serve as the LEA AMSTI Contact
  2. Analyze, plan, develop, and support schools in the implementation of AMSTI through careful analysis of data, leading, planning, and implementing appropriate professional development, in alignment with the Alabama State Course of Study:

Mathematics.
  1. Providing support for K-12 classroom teachers in the full implementation of the district's adopted math/science programs.
  2. Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative math/science practices through various activities such as individual discussions (informal and formal), coaching sessions, demonstration lessons with pre-and post- discussions/analysis, study groups, staff meetings, and professional development programs.
  3. Planning with the district Administrators, state staff, and schools to analyze, provide feedback, and implement district and school math/science plans, and support math/science instruction and intervention efforts in all schools utilizing the most current data sources.
  4. Planning cooperatively in a variety of settings with district staff, schools, and other stakeholders so that all agreed-upon outcomes, strategies, and timelines are accurate, clear, concise, and complete.
  5. Participating in collaborative grade-level meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve the focus of instructional planning and student achievement.
  6. Participating in face-to-face and online professional learning opportunities as determined by the supervisor.
  7. Communicating verbally, electronically, and in writing with district staff, state staff, and school officials/personnel, and timely manner.
  8. Submitting, producing, and/or uploading required documents. presentations, plans, data, calendar entries, and any other work product as directed by the supervisor.
  9. Demonstrating appropriate professional conduct in performance with stated duties and any other deemed necessary as assigned by the supervisor.
  10. Facilitating district-wide professional learning and study groups directly related to identified math needs.
  11. Modeling effective math instructional and intervention strategies for teachers.


EVALUATIONS: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy and Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

SALARY: Board approved salary schedule.
