Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Administration, or in a field related to the job, plus six (6) years of progressively responsible experience, including four (4) years of experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity.

The Austin Police Department Police Records Division processes an ever-growing number of records. These records are subject to relevant state and federal mandates as well as critical to the department's ability to investigate crime.

This Police Division Manager ( PDM ) will report directly to the Police Data Initiatives and Analytics Manager and manage two to five direct reports responsible for teams such as Open Records, Police Digital Evidence Control Unit, Fingerprint and Identification, Records Management, Report Review, and Warrants.

The division leverages technology such as Axon Records, Evidence.com, Versaterm vRMS, GovQA, Versaterm CommunityReport, Picturelink to name a few.

The role will be responsible for overseeing the UCR NIBRS and records controls schedules programs. The PDM will be empowered to review current and future business practices and offer solutions.

The ideal candidate for this position will exhibit agility, adaptability, and strong critical thinking skills as well as possess sound interpersonal and managerial skills. The ideal candidate should be passionate about using data for good and to support shared understanding of key issues as well as to support change.

The office is located at 715 E. 8 St. Austin, Texas 78701. Parking is available in attached secure garage.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements short and long range plans, programs, and personnel that provide administrative, managerial support, fiscal management, program planning, and evaluation.
  • Determines goals, objectives, and resource requirements for assigned operational sections.
  • Develops, manages, revises, and implements standard operating practice, policy, and procedure governing the sections and ensures policies are in compliance with all City practice, policy, and procedure.
  • Develops and maintains departmental quality assurance program to monitor and enhance customer service and employee retention.
