Department Summary
The University of Michigan's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), a unit within Student Life, is a multidisciplinary and multi-theoretical university counseling center with 50 licensed professional staff, 5 support staff, and 18 advanced professionals in training. CAPS serves a diverse student body of over 50,000 students. CAPS provides culturally humble clinical services, outreach programming, and training opportunities. Approximately 5,000 students each year receive individual clinical services at CAPS.
Job Summary
Open staff counseling positions would be located in our Central office or at specific schools/colleges in our Embedded Model . This is a 12-month permanent appointment.
Responsibilities*
Clinical - 60%
Administrative/Indirect Clinical Service - 20%
Training - 10%
Outreach and Community Engagement - 10%

Hours coinciding with building hours Monday through Friday 8 am - 5 pm
Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/2024 or before 8/31/2024, will not be eligible for the university FY24-25 salary/merit plan unless otherwise notified.
UM is willing to pursue appropriate employment-based immigration sponsorship for eligible finalist.
This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.
Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of selected candidates

Responsibilities*
Clinical - 60%
- Direct clinical service, including individual/group counseling and crisis coverage - with adjustments made based on role or combination of roles in the agency (supervisor, seminar leader, coordinator (range of 19-24 hours/week) as well as based on time of the calendar year (e.g., less direct clinical service in the Summer)
- Providing and interpreting psychometric testing as needed
Administrative/Indirect Clinical Service - 20%
- Attend all center functions (staff meetings, clinical team meetings, work teams, retreats)
- Actively participate in agency and University related Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives
- Clinical documentation
- Clinical care coordination as needed (e.g., with community providers, UHS, Michigan Medicine providers) as well as communication with support units as needed (disability services, Dean of Students, academic advising)
- Provide consultation to counseling center staff/trainees and UM staff and faculty
Training - 10%
- Active involvement in all training programs including clinical supervision of psychology trainees, mentoring, and teaching/presenting seminars
Outreach and Community Engagement - 10%
- Increasing awareness of mental health and decreasing stigma through campus-wide initiatives, psycho-educational workshops, tabling, providing website content, attendance at campus events, and liaison services
Required Qualifications*
- Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or a closely related field, from an APA-accredited program, and APA-accredited internship
- Licensed/license eligible in the State of Michigan. Must obtain full license within 2 years. If the full license is not acquired within two years, employment may be terminated
- Clinical experience with a college student/young adult population
- This position can accommodate a candidate that requires a H1-B visa to be employed in the United States.
