Position Objective:

Performs duties related to taking blood donations and conducting donor physicals.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Provide oversight of the daily workload (primarily on mobile drives) by setting the work pace and coordinating assignments to meet productivity goals (including downtime activity, meal breaks, transitions, etc.). Assists manager in communicating policies and directives. Serves as a positive bridge between management and staff.

2. Greet donors and provide information about the donation process. Properly identifies the donor and conducts interviews to assess eligibility and ensure donor safety. Record donor medical histories accurately. Identifies and reports abnormal donor conditions by following the appropriate chain of communication.

3. Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples and donations. Monitor donors during and after the donation process to ensure their well-being. Manage adverse reactions and provide appropriate care.

4. Label and prepare blood units for processing. Perform blood component separation and storage. Ensure proper handling and transportation of blood products.

5. Clean and maintain blood collection equipment and donation areas. Calibrate and trouble-shoot technical equipment as needed. Ensure that all equipment meets safety and hygiene standards.

6. Adhere to all regulatory and safety standards, including (but not limited to) FDA, AABB, and OSHA guidelines. Maintain accurate records of all donations and procedures. Participated in quality assurance and improvement activities.

7. Provide exceptional customer service to donors, ensuring a positive donation experience. Address donor questions and concerns promptly and professionally.

8. Participate in the training of new staff and students by serving as a mentor and technical resource.

9. Maintain laboratory supplies inventory and conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

10. Actively participate in the laboratory quality plan/program (ex. investigative reports, notification of delays, etc.).

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Required Minimum Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent;

• Specialized training in phlebotomy.

Required Minimum Experience:

• Two years of experience working as a phlebotomist or one year working as a blood donor center technician, preferred.

Required License/Certifications:

• Phlebotomy or Donor Phlebotomy Technician certification with the National Phlebotomy Association or American Society of Clinical Pathology or eligible, preferred;

• Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Ability to work cooperatively with all types of personalities both inside and outside the organization;

• Requires travel to various sites.
