Summary

The Senior Dosimetrist performs radiation dosimetry activities at the direction of the Manager, Dosimetry Services. Primary responsibilities include participation at simulations, plan preparation by contouring normal tissue volumes, performing dose calculations, use of computer applications for treatment planning and preparation of the electronic treatment calendar and medical record for treatment delivery. Other activities may include brachytherapy planning, radiation safety, patient setup assistance, and continuing education and research assistance.

The Senior Dosimetrist position is differentiated from the Dosimetrist II by an additional component of administrative, research, resource(mentor) and/or education responsibility as described below.
• Communicating with the simulation and treatment therapists for coordination of sim and treat cases.
• Disseminating dosimetry planning assignments.
• Ensure dosimetry plans are completed in a timely fashion and are ready for scheduled start dates.
• Communication with treatment therapists for coordination of scheduling patients to start treatment.

Resource (mentor):
• Knowledgeable in the field and is able to disseminate their knowledge to other team members.
• Coach less experienced or expert members of the dosimetry team.

Minimum Education:


  • Associate's Degree Radiation Therapy Technologist

  • Program



Preferred Education:


  • Bachelor's Degree Dosimetry



LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:


  • MDCB (Medical Dosimetry Certification Board)



Minimum Experience Required:


  • Certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board and/or equivalent.

  • Three years of experience in dosimetry at a radiation therapy center utilizing computerized treatment

  • planning.



Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required


  • Understanding of anatomy to facilitate adequate contouring.

  • Knowledge of treatment planning to provide acceptable treatment plans efficiently.

  • Understanding of anatomy to facilitate adequate contouring.

  • Preferred Experience

  • Minimum five years of Dosimetry experience in a clinical setting.

  • Ability to plan with photons and protons.
