Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Environmental Management's Safe Drinking Water Program is accepting applications for a Drinking Water System Corrosion Control Specialist to be responsible for Safe Drinking Water program under the Safe Drinking Water Act, aiding in the transition to implementation of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisionsand Lead and Copper Rule Improvements.

Drinking Water System Corrosion Control Specialist position will be headquartered in our Central office in Madison, WI.

Position Summary

Drinking Water System Corrosion Control Specialist (Water Supply Specialist - Advanced): The principal function of this position is to coordinate and assist in implementation of portions of the state Safe Drinking Water program, specifically the Lead and Copper Rule under the Safe Drinking Water Act, for all community and non-transient noncommunity public water systems . Activities include, but are not limited to, evaluating the impacts of new water sources and treatment changes on lead and copper corrosion in public water systems (PWSs); discerning the need for new or re-optimized corrosion control treatment (CCT) at public drinking water systems; assessing the impacts of water chemistry on lead and copper corrosion; reviewing corrosion control treatment studies; designating optimal corrosion control treatment (OCCT); aiding in the transition to implementation of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisionsand Lead and Copper Rule Improvements; and other water supply engineering tasks as assignedrelated to the evaluation and inspection of water system designs, operations, and treatment techniques, interpretation of federal regulations and direct translation of federal rules into state codes; statewide and interdepartmental coordination of program activities.

Salary Information

Drinking Water System Corrosion Control Specialist (Water Supply Specialist - Advanced) starting salary is between $34.00 - $41.00 / hour ($70,720.00 and $85,280.00) depending on qualifications. Plus, excellent benefits.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:
  • College level coursework or greater in chemistry and statistics or comparable work experience
  • Education or experience with water supply sources, contaminants, treatments, and distribution systems.
  • Experience in the management and coordination of large datasets including the use of spreadsheets and databases (such as excel, oracle or similar).
In addition, highly qualified candidates will have experience with one or more of the following:
  • Experience interpreting and applying state or federal statues and/or administrative codes related to the environment, natural resources, or public health.
  • Experience applying corrosion control science in accordance with federal guidance.
  • Experience communicating technical topics to a variety of audiences, including technical writing, verbal communication, and visual materials (e.g power point presentations, infographics, etc).
