Position Summary

The Education Coordinator functions under the direction of the Manager of Education. He/she assesses employees' needs to provide educational programming in order to strengthen the total organization in providing up-to-date in-service and continuing education programs. He/she coordinates all educational resources and programs throughout the organization.

To oversee the planning, developing, implementation, and evaluation of high quality programs for the employees of ECU Health Medical Center.

Responsibilities

1.Education

Demonstrate an understanding of Adult Learning needs and the delivery of content using varied teaching modalities.

Serves as an Education Resource for staff, managers and physicians including knowledge of online resources, education data base and research resources.

Updates education material as a result of new/changed requirements.

Works in conjunction with the Education Manager in maintaining the Learn Center Educational System, including working with technical support to utilize the entire system.

Demonstrates knowledge of Life Support Programs (AHA preferred), keeps current with BLS and certifications and seeks to train in the role of AHA instructor in disciplines identified by the department manager (BLS, ACLS, PALS) to assist in the training of staff.

Lead and assist with classes, projects, student rotation process, and new initiatives or programs.

2.Orientation

Assist in and /or Lead Hospital Orientation Process and onboarding of New Hires

Develops and instructs Nursing service Orientation program.

Coordinates student orientation programs with area colleges.

3. Administrative Duties

Assists the Education Manager in the budgetary planning for the Department of Educational Services.

Works in conjunction with the Education Manager to facilitate the general duties of running the Education Department such as answering the phone, copies, laminating, grading tests, entering data into the Learn Center, scheduling classes, etc.

Works in conjunction with Education Manager in setting up rooms for meetings, audiovisuals, equipment, and ordering nourishments. Assists with operation of equipment.

Plans ACLS/PALS class schedule yearly and updates as needed. Submits required planning paperwork to ECU Health Medical Center.

Maintains current knowledge of regulatory changes issued by the Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc.

Possess knowledge of NCBON scope of practice and acts as a resource for competency assessment and validation of staff to meet governing agencies requirements.

Serves as an active member of Clinical Ladder Staff Development and networks with Regional educators and sources for best practices.

Serves on committees as appointed and participates in rounding to assess until level and department needs for education.

Minimum Requirements

BSN is required- or higher. RN Licensure required.

American Heart Association BLS is required, American Heart Association BLS instructor within 6 months of hire.

A minimum of two years experience in adult education or nursing education in a healthcare facility, or applicable education experience is required.
