The Educator Fellows of New Mexico two year program aims to provide an opportunity to accomplish two main goals: 1. To provide additional supplementary Educational Assistant support in the classroom setting to increase adult to student ratios as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. 2. To provide specific resources and support to build the educator pipeline in New Mexico.

Priority of Awards Based on Indicators; The project can support 500 state supported fellowships, therefore a system of priority is utilized to determine awards to LEA's who submitted an RFI. The priorities are set based on the number of indicators met. The indicators are as follows:
  • Elementary schools
  • ELL serving schools greater than 10% of the school population
  • Special Education serving Schools greater than 15% of the school population
  • Native American serving schools greater than 10% of the school population
  • Economically disadvantaged schools greater than 50% of the school population

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Works with individuals and small groups in the classroom to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
  • Serves as a model in developing students' language and behavior.
  • Collects, prepares and arranges resource material for use by certified personnel.
  • Operates support equipment and monitors testing or make-up work by students.
  • Maintains classroom records, prepares reports as requested by the classroom teacher or principal, scores tests, processes books, manages supplies and classroom equipment as needed.
  • Monitors student activities in classrooms, school grounds, hallways, lunchrooms, field trips, bus loading areas, etc.
  • Provides support for non-instructional classroom duties such as monitoring snacks, restrooms, clothing areas, etc

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects

REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Eligible for EA License
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Enrolled in an Education Program with an accredited University or College
