Renewal by Andersen is seeking an Electrical/Controls Engineer at our Cottage Grove, MN location.

PURPOSE

This position is responsible for providing electrical/controls engineering expertise within the Renewal by Andersen (RbA) team supporting business growth projects. The ideal candidate for this position is an innovative thinker and has a passion for operational excellence.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide and/or coordinate detailed quotes/estimates for controls work
  • Write machinery control functional specifications
  • Design the power and control wiring of industrial automation equipment
  • Work with vendors to assure specifications and code requirements are followed
  • Documentation of electrical design changes
  • Conduct machine operational testing during Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing
  • Project management skills; deliver safe, effective, sustainable, and reliable solutions (Project planning, approval process, equipment specification, budget, preventative maintenance, acceptance plans, design review, safety assessments, capital request)
  • PLC programming and operator screen development
  • Participative team approach to problem solving and root cause analysis with associates, supervisors, maintenance, operations, Value Stream Managers, and peers
  • Support the maintenance and operations team with advanced controls troubleshooting
  • Assess current vs future electrical technology capabilities
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical drawings for equipment
  • Coach, mentor, and train less experienced staff on technical topics
  • Position may require participation on an on-call, 24/7 controls system support on a rotational basis
  • Travel requirements: Less than 10% for training, corporate visits, and vendor visits


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field
  • 2+ years of engineering experience preferred with controls/automation systems background
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix), motion/servos (Kinetix), variable speed drives (PowerFlex)
  • Visualization/operator interfaces (PanelView and FactoryTalk View Studio ME/SE)
  • Rockwell communications software (RsLinx)
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation RsLogix 500/5000 and Studio5000 programming software
  • Ethernet/Ethernet IP machine-level networking
  • Experience with basic electrical components such as sensors, motors, indicators, circuit protection, etc.
  • Experience reading and creating electrical schematics
  • Knowledge or experience with AutoCAD
  • Proficient in safety system design & troubleshooting; understanding of safety categories
  • Test basic safety and control systems using relays, PLC/HMI programming, VFDs and/or servo motion
  • Proficient in safe work methods (lock out tag out, arc flash)
  • Communicate effectively through written, verbal, listening, and presentation skills
  • Strong aptitude in problem solving, collecting data, performing statistical analyses, and making process improvements through sound, data-driven decisions
  • Comfortable with hands-on work
  • Interest in working in a manufacturing setting
  • Proficient with the use of common electrical testing tools
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Self-motivated and able to learn quickly; being able to work independently and on a team depending on the situation
  • Experience with change management strategies
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with ThinClient/ThinManager, robotics (preferably Fanuc), CNC's, IIoT devices, vision systems, and/or machine to machine connectivity.
Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
Equipment design experience with UL 508A and NFPA 79
Experience with the National Electric Code (NFPA 70) and workplace electrical safety based on NFPA 70E

SALARY INFORMATION:

In 2024, Andersen has set a profit-sharing target of $4,000 per eligible employee, prorated as appropriate. Profit sharing will be paid out in quarterly installments to provide eligible employees with payments throughout the year, with payment amounts tied to quarterly operating profit performance.
