The Role
The Factory Firmware Team (FFT) is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Fremont, CA. This is a hybrid position requiring both system-level automation & validation with a focus on integrating vehicle firmware into manufacturing environments. The core responsibility of this role is to oversee testing and advise on the firmware (or change control) quality, leveraging our home-grown validation tools, analyze data trends, provide feedback to R&D engineering, work closely with the validation team to improve automation pipelines, and execute regression testing at the component, subsystem, and vehicle levels prior to firmware release into manufacturing. The scope of responsibility includes some software development, hands-on design of HIL and SIL systems, attention to detail, and ensuring safe and quality firmware to support manufacturing requirements.

The Factory Firmware Team operates as the eyes and ears of the Firmware organization within the factory and often has last say on the deployment of new firmware to manufacturing - providing valuable insight and feedback to accelerate the development and launch of exciting new hardware and software features. We take the role seriously to ensure our Tesla cars are safe and of good software quality.



Responsibilities
  • Interact with vehicle system architects, developers and validation engineers to gather test system requirements
  • Specify, design, develop, integrate and maintain complex automated test systems
  • Review electrical schematics and design circuitry to simulate in vehicle signals or physical behavior
  • Hands-on bring-up, build and debugging of new circuit boards
  • Continually learn, set, teach and apply EE best practices, tools and technologies
  • Promote and protect Tesla's reputation as a cutting-edge company producing the world's most exciting cars and shifting the paradigm of personal transportation worldwide


Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals including circuit design
  • Proficiency with Altium or similar schematic software
  • Ability to use oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other electrical test instruments to support troubleshooting
  • Hands-on technical experience debugging complex systems involving networked microprocessors and software-controlled electrical or electromechanical devices
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience with Catia, SolidWorks is a plus
  • Experience developing complex automated test fixtures and systems
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and safely

    • Expected Compensation

      $104,000 - $348,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
