Job Description

Role Summary:

This roll will centralize all test bench maintenance and test calibration operations to a reliable single position. This role will interact with internal teams and external vendors. This position will maintain and ensure proper calibration of lab equipment valued ~30 mio USD. Daily equipment checks and PM scheduling is needed to ensure the highest amount of uptime for the Battery Engineering Lab in Chattanooga. All training will be provided for success in this role.

Role Responsibilities:

Test Bench Maintenance
  • Maintain all test benches at the VWGoA Battery Engineering Lab (BEL). Ensure uptime of test benches and reliability of test results. Schedule and negotiate all Preventative maintenances for the BEL.
  • Conduct daily checks on filters, wires, thermal couples, harnesses, connections, scripts and programs
  • Work with BEL test engineers and technicians for test setup, and alignment of any scheduled downtown
  • React to quickly solve imminent test bench issues to reduce down time when test bench issues occur.
  • Manage allotted preventative maintenance budget to ensure uptime requirements are met, with the lowest cost to VWGoA
  • Program PLC test benches, write scripts and programs for PLC test benches
  • Root Cause Test bench or Test Script issues as they occur

Calibration of BEL Test Benches and equipment
  • Plan and source calibration on +300 individual components and ensure ISO 17025 calibration requirements are kept at all times.
  • Work with Test engineers and BEL Project Manager to time best windows for calibration events
  • Manage Calibration budget and Risk Budgets as assigned to you to ensure the best expense to accuracy ratio is achieved.
  • Troubleshoot test bench issues and maintain vendor relationships for project success


Qualifications

Years of Experience:

5+ years of experience with electrical system testing, analysis, and evaluation, or the relevant experience in climate chamber or test bench maintenance

Education - Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Education - Desired:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering
  • 2nd Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Skills:
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking - using logic and reason, creative and strategic thinking

  • Computer savvy - skilled in the use of software, ability to program PLC, and advanced test benches

  • Problem solving- strong ability to navigate complicated issues in an advanced systems and/or international company to come to the best solution possible.

Specialized Skills - Required:
  • Knowledge in PLC programming, CAN and Ethernet communication
  • Competent on reviewing and creating electrical drawings or wire diagrams
  • Test equipment/bench development, setup and programming experience
  • Knowledge and experience on cooling circuits / refrigeration loops / heating elements

Specialized Skills - Desired:
  • German skills written and verbal are advantageous
  • Experience on test bench maintenance
  • 3-5 years of knowledge of HV Battery system
  • Understands vehicle communication networks (CAN) and be able to capture the relevant data on the bus
  • Experience of working in a test lab environment for 1-3 years

Work Flexibility:
  • Occasional traveling to the suppliers, ext. labs, and the R&D department in Germany
  • Be able to work in a high voltage environment (
