Location Description

The Lawrence, Kansas facility is 236,000 square feet and home to about 155 hard working team members who are proud to produce iconic pet food brands like Kibbles 'n Bits®. Lawrence is a college town and the home to both the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University with Kansas State University about 85 miles away. The city is known for a thriving music and art scene and is also the home of the University of Kansas athletic teams.

Responsibilities

Electrical & Instrumentation Apprentice

Starting rate: $32.19 per hour

EXCITING NEWS: Due to increasing customer demand, the Post Consumer Brands facility in Lawrence, KS is transitioning to a 24/7 production schedule! Production team members will work:

• 12-hour shifts, either 6am - 6pm or 6pm - 6am (shifts do NOT rotate!)

• Work 3 days one week and 4 days the next week (either Tuesday - Thursday or Saturday - Monday with alternating Fridays)

• Shift premiums up to $1.50 per hour

In preparation for this change, we are now hiring and training new team members on our current schedules:

• 2nd shift: Monday - Friday, 3:30 pm - midnight ($.40 per hour shift differential)

• 3rd shift: Sunday - Thursday, 11:30 pm - 8:00 am ($.55 per hour shift differential)

• Team members will be required to work overtime including before and after regular shifts and on weekends prior to transitioning to the 24/7 schedule

Responsibilities

The E&I Technician Apprentice position is a multi-year program to prepare an individual to assume the role of Electrical & Instrumentation Technician.

In the Apprentice role, you will train to:

• Maintain and repair all electrical, instrumentation, controls, and automation equipment and software in a way that achieves customer satisfaction in support of the manufacturing of Kibbles 'n Bits

• Become proficient in operating and troubleshooting of the following:

o Power Distribution

o Studio5000 or Logix5000 platform hardware and software

o Drives and Motion Control

o FactoryTalk ME & SE

o Ethernet/IP Control Network

o Food Manufacturing and Utility Instrumentation

• Maintain and properly operate electrical testing equipment

• Utilize drawings, prints, and instruction manuals to determine proper steps to be taken for equipment preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs; adhere to company drawing and documentation standards

• Perform preventive maintenance activities and work orders in a timely manner to maximize performance of plant equipment. Improve and modify preventative maintenance activities as appropriate

• Use continuous improvement tools, including breakdown elimination, to eliminate losses and drive issues to root cause; documents, communicates, and implements corrective and preventative actions

• Maintain a clean, sanitary and orderly work area to ensure employee and food safety

Qualifications

The successful candidate (s) for this role will have the following qualifications:

• Possess a high school diploma or a GED

• Associates, technical degree or training is preferred

• Working knowledge of electrical systems, PLC, motor and motion controls, SCADA systems, device and information networks, sensors, instrumentation equipment for manufacturing

• Previous mechanical/maintenance experience is preferred

• Previous food manufacturing experience is preferred

• Willing to work a flexible schedule as needed

• Able to read, understand, and follow documents such as safety policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and general instructions

• Working knowledge of general electrical safety

• Working knowledge of electrical schematics, power distribution and controls, motor and motor controls, PLC logic controls, HMIs, and other industrial controls

• Able to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions

• Good communication skills, including the ability to give and receive feedback

• Able to provide leadership and prioritization in designated equipment area

• Able to set and meet goals

• Able to prioritize and manage workload in a changing environment

• Able to work both independently and on a team

• Works well with support personnel to maintain high standards for safety, quality, and reliability and drive improvements

• Able to make data driven decisions and engage others as appropriate

• Basic mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills

• Excellent computer skills

• Able to learn company specific computer systems, including maintenance enterprise system

• Desire to work in a constantly changing, progressive environment

Expectations:

• Able to operate, perform basic physical activities: climbing, standing, bending, twisting, and moving around stairs, ladders, platforms and various equipment

• Able to lift objects up to 60 pounds frequently

• Must be able to effectively read, comprehend, interpret, record, and apply information from documents
