A Day In The Life
The Electrical Technician, under the direction of the Manager, Design Engineering will support the research and development team by designing, testing, and maintaining electrical systems and components. The Electrical Technician is responsible for 1) Assist in the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components for R&D projects. 2) Construct, modify, and test prototypes and experimental setups. and 3) Conduct tests and experiments, collect data, and document results accurately.This role entails the design and development of electrical systems and components, ensuring both functionality and compliance with industry standards. The Electrical Technician will support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems and components used in innovative research projects. This role requires a hands-on approach, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers and other departments.

As a Product Technician, Elec. you will:
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electrical test units, applying knowledge of electrical engineering theory.
  • Conduct tests on electrical systems and components to evaluate performance, durability, and reliability. Collect and analyze data, identify issues, and suggest improvements to enhance product quality.
  • Assist in the design and fabrication of prototypes for new electrical systems and components.
  • Utilize tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, soldering irons, and PCB layout software to develop and construct electronic systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of lab equipment and machinery. Ensure all tools and instruments are in proper working condition and comply with safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, test results, and maintenance activities. Prepare technical reports and documentation to support R&D projects.
  • Work closely with engineers and other team members to understand project requirements and objectives. Provide technical support and expertise to contribute to the successful completion of projects.
  • Write reports and record data on testing techniques, laboratory equipment, and specifications to assist engineers.
  • Follow staff engineer instructions in the assembly and use of modal analysis equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety procedures.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering and related technologies. Suggest and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of R&D processes.
  • Collaborate with engineers to integrate mechanical designs with electronic systems and user requirements.
  • Optimize product designs for manufacturability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct research on materials and components to determine optimal design choices.
  • Perform analysis to ensure the reliability and compliance of electrical systems with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Revise designs based on feedback from prototyping and testing processes.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes and methodologies.
  • Read and comprehend written and oral English instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write simple correspondence. Effectively discuss information in one-on-one and small group situations with customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


What We Need From You

  • Associate's Degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 4-6 years electrical technician experience and/or experience in an R&D facility in a related industry or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software programs - Word/Outlook/Excel.
  • Able to read, understand, and implement the correct PPE required by ASG.
  • Ability to read and understand operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to fellow associates and management any problems or challenges that may arise during a workday.
  • Ability to read hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics, and blueprints, and interpret schematics to ensure work accuracy.
  • Welding certificate (preferred).
  • Strong familiarity with programming languages such as G-code (preferred).
  • Assembly line experience (preferred).
  • Blueprint reading skills (preferred).
  • Attention to detail.

Physical and Environmental Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly and repeatedly required to talk; hear; stand; walk; stoop; kneel/squat, climb, use hands and fingers, to handle, grip/squeeze and/or feel; push/pull and reach with hands and arms. The associate will be frequently required to balance; crouch, or crawl; reach over-head and taste or smell. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Travel Requirements
10% Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis).
