Job Description / Essential Elements:
LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: ELECTRICIAN BASIC FUNCTION: Perform journey-level electrical work involving the repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical systems and equipment. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class. Perform journey-level work in the installation, repair, alteration or construction of a variety of interior and exterior electrical work according to specifications and codes. E Design, install, maintain and repair bell, clock, intercom and alarm systems, including circuitry, circuit breakers, relays, switches, sensors and related wiring; program bell schedules. E Inspect and verify work needed to be performed; plan work from sketches, drawings and blueprints; estimate time and material needed; requisition needed materials. E Plan, lay out, install, repair and replace lighting fixtures and emergency lighting systems, including ballast, transformers, lamps, capacitors, lenses and related equipment, devices and wiring. E Install, repair and maintain high and low voltage electrical systems and equipment in schools and other sites; perform preventive maintenance as necessary. E Assist in the preparation of estimates of time and material required for new construction and repair projects. E Design, install, maintain and repair security and fire alarm systems, horns and related components. E Train and provide work direction to others in electrical maintenance and repair work; inspect work completed or in progress to assure compliance with District standards. E Operate and maintain a variety of specialized equipment, hand and power tools, including hydraulic lift, conduit bender, power activated tools, saws, test equipment and meters. E Drive to various District locations. E Assist staff with maintenance projects as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Tools, materials and skills of the electrical trade. Federal, State and local regulations pertaining to electrical standards and related codes, including the National Electrical Code and Electrical Safety orders. Operation, maintenance and repair of motors, starters and controls. Safety practices and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade. Design, construction, installation and maintenance of electrical apparatus and equipment. Technical aspects of field of specialty. ABILITY TO: Perform journey-level electrical work involving the repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical systems and equipment. Plan the layout, assembly, installation testing and repair of electrical systems. Read and interpret blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications. Make sketches and diagrams of electrical work and make accurate job estimates of materials and labor. Work effectively with supervisors, school personnel and others. Work from work orders and verbal instructions. Apply shop math accurately and correctly. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and increasingly responsible journey-level experience in electrical installation, alteration and repair work. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver's license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Indoor and outdoor work environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Incumbents may be required to respond to emergency calls. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling heavy objects. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand and power electrical tools and equipment used in the electrical trade. Climbing ladders. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. HAZARDS: Electrical power supply and high voltage. Working at heights. Board Approved 11/2/99

Operations, maintenance and repair of motors, starters and controls. Safety practices and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade. Design, construction, installation and maintenance of electrical apparatus and equipment. Technical aspects of field of specialty. ABILITY TO: Perform journey-level electrical work involving the repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical systems and equipment. The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination. Cost of the exam will be borne by the District. A pre-employment drug screening will also be administered. Valid California driver's license If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B. tested and fingerprinted. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview.
