What You Will Do
The Safeguards Science and Technology Group (NEN-1) invites you to join our diverse and goal-oriented group of peers dedicated to the primary mission of developing and deploying nondestructive technologies and concepts in support of domestic and international nuclear safeguards and security. This position will be filled at the Development and Fabrication Tec 1 level. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Development and Fabrication Tec 1 $39,200 - $60,200

  • Assemble components on custom circuit boards and test to ensure proper functionality.
  • Read and understand engineering instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications.
  • Assists in testing experiments and diagnostic equipment.
  • Supports prototype development; provides input for custom parts, assemblies, and testing.
  • Performs appropriate modifications to circuits and electronic devices when instructed to do so.
  • Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
  • Ensures all work, materials, processes and final product meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements
  • Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Maintains required safety and security training, assures safety and security compliance, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.



What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Knowledge and basic experience with electrical design, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical components (e.g. resistors/capacitors/inductors/diodes/ transistors/basic logic devices)
  • Ability to read and understand engineering instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications.
  • Awareness of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research on problems affecting electronic or mechanical systems and/or equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

Education/Experience at level 2:
Position requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year of related experience.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of Altium software for circuit board design.


Work Location The work location is in Los Alamos, NM. Work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: A 5-40 or 9-80 schedule during normal working hours. A part time position of 30 or more hours may be considered.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.
