POSITION SUMMARY:
The Emergency Department Manager is responsible for the direction and leadership of operational, financial, and personnel activities for the Emergency Department. The Manager provides leadership and takes responsibility for the delivery of safe, quality, patient care for the Emergency Department on a 24-hour basis. The Manager ensures department standards of nursing practice, and policies and procedures meet legal, and all accrediting and regulatory agency requirements. The Manager will develop and implement ongoing programs to measure, monitor, assess and improve quality of nursing care delivered to patients, working toward hospital-wide improvement in meeting core measure, patient safety, and service excellence goals in the Emergency Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plans safe, economical, and efficient nursing care.
• Ability to plan and provide professional emergency care by obtaining admission nursing assessment, administering medication, monitoring life support, performing routine and complex treatments.
• Participate in Quality/Performance Improvement activities for the Emergency Department.
• Assigns responsibility and delegates authority so as to provide for safe, effective patient care and maximizes utilization of skills and abilities of all ER personnel.
• Responsible for resolution of problems which arises in the operation of the Emergency Department.
• Maintains emergency equipment in operational mode at all times.
• Responsible for orientation of nursing personnel and students to the Emergency Department.
• Responsible for developing, reviewing, and revising all policies and procedures for the emergency room as required.
• Ensures that all emergency room nursing practices are maintained and standards monitored.
• Evaluates hospital emergency and disaster plans, recommends changes in policies and procedures as required.
• Consistently assesses the nursing care provided in the emergency room and identifies any problems or needs for improvement.
• Develops and monitors the budget for the emergency department and submits to administration yearly.
• Responds to emergencies with the hospital when the need arises.
• Participates in planning and coordinating hospital changes and activities as they relate to the Emergency Room.
• Responsible for own personal job-related development and the Emergency Department staff.
• Performs and records clinical assessments based on anatomic, physiological, and development differences of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Liaison between physician, staff, and patients.
• Performs chart audits regularly to maintain quality compliance.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function.
• Participates in continuing education programs as required.
EDUCATION:
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current Georgia Nursing License.
• Successful completion of Dodge County Hospital's medication administration evaluation.
• Ability to proficiently perform all essential job responsibilities after three-month orientation period.
• Minimal continuing education requirements as defined by the Department of Nursing.
• Requires 5 basic units of DCH education units per year.
• Requires DCH mandatory annual training.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATIONS, & CERTIFICATIONS:
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current Georgia Nursing License.
• BLS/ACLS/PALS required.
EXPERIENCE:
• At least five (5) years RN experience.
