Job Summary:

Performs the clerical duties of the unit and facilitates clear communication to support the smooth functioning of the unit.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Completes all necessary forms, requisitions, communications and special projects as assigned. Accurately transcribes physicians' orders (when applicable).

Acts as a central communication resource at the nursing station for all patient care activities. Maintains good customer service and patient confidentiality.

Accurately inputs and retrieves data.

Initiates, maintains, replaces or completes various clerical forms, reports, supplies, etc.

A. Meets the physical demands of the position.

B. Demonstrates ability to cope with and function under stress.

C. Meets skill certification requirements for designated units.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Medium Work: Exerting 20 50 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to one third of the time) and/or 10 25 pounds of force frequently (activity or condition exists from one third to two thirds of the time).

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Requires long period of sitting.

Frequently works in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

Inside: Protection from weather conditions.

REASONING, MATHEMATICAL, AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT:

Reasoning Comparing and judging the readily observable characteristics of data, people or things. Reporting and/or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to information frequently involved.

Mathematical Basic math skills in addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication of all units of measure.

Reading Read and understand instructions, rules, policies, and physician orders. Look up unfamiliar words in the dictionary for meaning, spelling and pronunciation.

Writing Write sentences using cursive style and proper punctuation, spelling and grammar.

Speaking Speak clearly and distinctly.

RELATIONSHIPS TO DATA, PEOPLE & THINGS:

Responsive to the needs of patients, families and fellow co-workers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

1. High School diploma or equivalent required.

2. Medical terminology/keyboarding skills preferred.

B. Experience:

1. Experience in clerical or receptionist position preferred.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Clerical Duties:

1. Acts as a central communication resource at the nursing station for all patient care activities.

2. Accurately transcribes physicians' orders, completes all necessary forms, requisitions, and communications required to implement orders. Copies medication orders onto the medication sheets as required per unit.

3. Accurately inputs and retrieves data.

4. Initiates, maintains, replaces or completes various clerical forms, reports, supplies, etc.

5. Accepts and screens incoming telephone calls appropriately and delivers messages accurately, maintaining patient confidentiality.

B. Other Related Duties:

1. Adheres and follows all approved Day Kimball Hospital and Nursing Department policies.

3. Maintains confidentiality.

4. Demonstrates competency in utilizing resources to accommodate cultural needs of patients and customers such as dietary, religious and language needs.

6. Demonstrates knowledge and application of principles of fire safety, hazardous communication program, standard precautions, infection prevention, and general safety.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.
