What You Will Do
  • Safety and risk management.
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing an ambulance for safe operation as well as providing a safe, transport experience for the patient and medical crew. Focuses on providing expertise to support a team based care delivery model.
  • Completes the initial UH Emergency Driver training course and maintains currency annually.
  • Expected to understand the vehicle dynamics for patients on ventilators, central lines, chest tubes, medication administration and titration, cardiac assist devices, IAPB, Impella, ECMO, and isolettes.
  • Must excel at working in an interdisciplinary environment inclusive of physicians, advanced practicing providers, nursing, respiratory therapy, and other members of the clinical care team.
  • Completes appropriate documentation of vehicle readiness pre and post transport, and of vehicle operations as part of the tam post transport debrief.
  • Must uphold and maintain all necessary certifications and demonstrated.
  • Supports PR events to represent the transport team and University Hospitals as required.
  • Displays a commitment to UH EMS-I services and UH System mission, vision, and values
  • Must be an unwavering advocate for patient and crew safety.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.


Qualifications:
Education
  • High School Equivalent / GED with completion of state of Ohio EMT education (Required)

Work Experience
  • 1+ years of experience driving an ambulance in an urban and rural setting with a busy 911 or active interfacility ambulance service. (Required)
  • Experience in operating an ambulance in a rural and urban busy 911 system and/or a busy interfacility ambulance company (Required)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral (Required proficiency)
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor when interacting with patients and customers (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
  • OH Driver's License (Valid) Emergency Driver Training Course certificate (Required)
  • Commercial Drivers License, Group A (CDL-A) (Preferred)
  • Current EMT certificate (Required)
  • EMT with current certificate to practice in the state of Ohio (Required)
