JOB DESCRIPTION:
Human Resources announces an opening for an Employment Specialist located at the Syphax Education Center in the Department of Human Resources. This is a full-time, 12-month, Grade E-07 position
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK ((May not include all duties performed - These are intended as an illustration of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)

  • Assist with searching applicant tracking system by job postings and create lists of applicants to be sent to hiring officials - for all scales vacancies.
  • Extract paperwork from applicant tracking system associated with onboarding an employee.
  • Process requisitions and types vacancy announcements for various scales, including hourly positions.
  • Prepare all forms of correspondence to applicants, employees, and new hires, including commitment, assignment, surplus, and resignation letters.
  • Process Personnel Action Notices for new hires and transfers as a part of onboarding.
  • Process employment paperwork for new hires (permanent and/or hourly).
  • May provide clerical support to assigned supervisory staff.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for information.
  • Compile data for records and reports.
  • Support organization of and participate in various APS job fairs.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned.
EXPERIENCE: PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Arlington Public Schools policies and procedures.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute large recruitment events.

  • Ability to respond to questions about employment policies and procedures and field inquiries from applicants.

  • Knowledge and experience with Windows, Excel, Word, Access, WinOcular (applicant tracking system), and Oracle STARS.

  • Experience working with staff from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact in a courteous and tactful manner.

  • Ability to work positively with the public and employees in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

  • Experience preparing correspondence and responding to routine inquiries both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to multi-task work responsibilities with a concentration on new hire onboarding process.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A degree, two years of college in a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skill, and ability. Considerable experience in HR procedures; OR the equivalent in training, education and experiences in related personnel administration programs.

Salary range of $69,551.00 to $113,996.00 annually based upon 23/24 pay plan.

Newly hired employees with previous experience in their field may receive salary credit for up
to five years of experience related to the job being filled.
